There are TWO dividers. One is removable, and the other is sewn in. The sewn-in partition can be collapsed up against its adjacent outer wall, or extended away from this outer wall about 3 inches, leaving around 5 inches on the opposite side of the sewn-in partition.

Yes those two straps go all the way around.

in which part of the bag do you store the gun securely?

The central part of the bag has a large compartment with a partition. I carry (4) pistols in this section with room to spare.
