Riot Grrrl Collection, The

This book is beautiful and I'm so happy to own it. The reproductions are sharp and at almost full page size, and the text is easy to read. You are most certainly meant to engage with the content in these zines and flyers and absorb them for yourself. There's a good mix that gives an excellent overall feel of the content I'm sure is in the Fales Library archive. There are 3-4 zines that have been reprinted in full, as far as I can tell, and the rest are excerpts. As well as zines there are gig posters and notebook pages with zine notes and lyrics. It's fantastic to flip through and Important, to history and identity.

I was so pleased to find that this book even existed, i have been wanting to to read the Riot Grrrl zines for some time. And this book doesn't disappoint! If you are into Revolution Girl Style, this is the book for you.

I love the book!!!

Having never seen a real zine before I really enjoyed this collection. I was surprised and intrigued by the topics riot grrrls wrote about. My only criticism is in regards to the typed text as it didn't always correspond to the photocopied pages but was easier to read. I just wish this collection included more zines!

Bellissimo

Twenty years ago I was in high school hell and the things that made me feel better was punk rock and zines. Riot grrrl was a huge part of that. The high school I went to was very hostile towards feminists and punks. My heart goes out to young girls dealing with that now and I hope they get this book. Even though I never went to any riot grrrl meetings or hung out with any riot grrrls the movement made a huge impact on me. The idea that feminism can be cool and to be proud of ones identity when others are trying to tear you down is huge when one is 15! God bless these trailblazing women.

I’m so glassy I finally bought this book. It’s gorgeous and brings back so many memories of my youth.

A must for all riot grrrls older and young alike.

For anyone who was lucky enough to see the bands and artists featured in this book in the 1990s, it'll remind you of the excitement of the time and the energy that went into creating a new playing field for female musicians. After reading my copy, I passed it onto a local teenage high school musician/artist looking for inspiration to create her own path in life to use as a guidebook for what can be done and what is possible. Hopefully, those are the hands that'll have the existing copies of this book passed onto them ...
