PSA to Amazon Thermostat Users!
This is perfect for older houses! I only had 4 wires behind my old thermostat and knew essentially nothing about wiring a furnace. This is my first time ever changing a thermostat and it was pretty easy. There were a few special tweaks needed for an older house though. I have advice for people using the Amazon Thermostat with this! See below. -First and foremost you can get through this process as safe as possible if you use ChatGPT. Also, follow the normal instructions included when adding the device to the Alexa app. Turn off circuit breakers, etc. It's good to have a live wire tester to make sure it's safe (they're cheap on Amazon) OR just turn off every breaker to be sure there's no power to the wires. -The C wire needs to come from outside the thermostat while all the other wires are inside your wall, so you'll need to cut out a tiny bit of plastic so the C wire can also fit in where it's needed. There is a small door that flips up and down on the device you plug your thermostat into. Carefully rip that door off or you wont be able to close it with the C wire in the way. You'll understand when you get to wiring it. Once that door is removed and you cut out an area for the C wire, then you should be able to attach the actual thermostat with no issues. -The wire can but cut shorter if you like. Splice it correctly again if you do. Remember! ChatGPT can help if you don't know. -Do NOT twist the two C wires together because they go in different slots on the thermostat! KEEP THEM SEPARATE. -One wire goes into the C slot. The other wire will be intertwined with the RH (hot) wire. Works like a charm. 10/10.

Much easier to get the Amazon Thermostat to work without a C wire
I took a star off because while the instruction may not be wrong but did not work for me. Here is how I get my Amazon Thermostat to work. Here are some facts first- 1. The HVAC does have a C wire but could not power the Amazon Thermostat, it appears that my HVAC C wire has 24 volts but not enough current (amps) to power the Thermostat. Hence need to add the transformer. 2. I live in Florida, so the heating and the AC are in one unit, that means the R(H) and RC are jumped together with only 1 Red wire. 3. I can't say for other areas but in South Florida this way will work. 4. When I followed the transformer instruction and mirror to the Amazon Thermostat, push the right button to connect one transformer wire to RH and the other wire to C and the Red wire from HVAC to R. I only get heat and not AC. 5. To correct the issue and viewed at least DIY videos and learn to fix it. You need to merge the Red wire and one of the transformer power wire to a new leg that can insert into the R with the bottom right blue clip pushed up to allow the R and RC jumper to connect internally. Once that was done, everything work correctly. I have have heat and AC. The reason that I had only heat but not AC, because the R in the Amazon Thermostat is for "HEAT" and since you push the right blue clipper down, it disconnect the R and RC. There for there is no power sent to the AC unit. Since the the Amazon Thermostat cannot easily jump the connectors, then you must introduce a 3rd wire for the R connection with transformer power wire, Red from HVAC, bundle all three wire together. Hope this help you to install without a C wire or low amperage C wire. I have to say the Thermostat works great. Good luck.

My Savior! Boiler Only with No C-Wire and Amazon Smart Thermostat
For many years, I wanted to get a smart/wifi thermostat, but my 1925 Craftsman house did not have a c-wire from the boiler. It had been on my honey-do list to get an electrician/handyperson to come in and run the wiring for me, but just had not managed to coordinate that. There is a long story about needing to do an emergency shut-off of my boiler while I was half way across the country for 10 more days in November. Needless to say, as soon as I got home and was able to resolve the immediate issue, I wanted a fast solution in the event of a future situation while I am out of town. Because I already have Amazon Echo units all around my house, it made sense to purchase the Amazon Smart Thermostat instead of another brand. After a lot of research and asking others, I ended up initially buying the companion c-wire adaptor that is recommended by Amazon. What was not well disclosed is the adaptor requires you have more than the two wires I have. Basically it doesn't work if you have only heat which is my situation. I had seen this type of plug-in adaptor but could not find anything definitive that it would work with the Amazon Smart Thermostat. Decided to give it a try and crossed my fingers. Installation of the overall thermostat was a little rocky, but in the end, I got everything to work. Other reviewers commented that they needed to switch which lead they put into which slot, basically that there was some sort of polarity. I probably tried a dozen attempts with different configurations before I finally got it to work. Not sure if the adaptor was at any point part of the issue or just the overall thermostat, but happy to report it has now been about three weeks and everything is great. As for the adaptor itself, it is ridiculously long. I might at some point trim it down to only the length I actually need, which is probably two feet versus the 25+ feet. For now, the bulk is hidden behind a bookcase so not visible. I've seen others comment that the plug had a loud buzz. Mine makes absolutely no noise at all. Perfectly quiet. It is also cool to the touch, so no concerns about heat. The price is really good. There were a few other choices that also included little clips to keep the cord orderly along the wall/baseboard, but I figured I could get those cheap at a hardware store if I really needed them. So, if you are like me and only have a boiler with no c-wire and want to install the Amazon Smart Thermostat (but also suggests it works with other smart thermostats or doorbells), don't hesitate to get this product, even if it is just temporary until you decide to get a c-wire added.

Works with Google Nest Doorbell (wired, 3rd Generation) smart video doorbell
Pros: - 26 foot long cable to ensure it reaches power outlet - Allows you to keep your legacy doorbell intact Cons: - None Identified So far My house was built in 1920 and when installing smart doorbell (I use the Google wired 3rd Generation) did not want to touch my legacy doorbell which is connected to the chime in the house. This product works with the Google wired 3rd generation and is a practical solution if you have a power outlet close by. It requires a little bit of wiring maintenance to get the power cable to the power outlet but it works! Now I have 24/7 live video recording without touching my legacy doorbell system (something I didn't want to deal with if I don't have to).

Good adapter but not for high demanding devices
TLDR: If you need a 24v adapter, your device does not need more than 0.5A and/or your camera is in a very low traffic area this should work perfectly. In my case it does not provide enough current to charge to keep my Eufy E340 camera going 24/7/365. In depth: To be clear this review reflects more of my unique use case than the adapter's quality. The unit works as its intended and that it says it would, supplying 24v and 0.5A but in my use case it does not provide enough amperage for the Eufy E340 video doorbell camera. Due my camera being in a very high traffic area, with all the sensitivity settings turn down to the lowest, activity and privacy zones setup to try and minimize alerts/recordings this adapter cannot supply enough current to charge and keep the internal battery of the E340 topped up. The battery will begin to drain down until the camera has to turn off and disconnect, at this time the adapter will be able to be-able to charge the battery. You will lose a few hours of coverage from this issue, where the E340 cannot process recordings, chimes and etc. I would typically return the unit but as I had already run, clamped and hid the wiring, I will be purchasing a different adapter, cutting the wires off this unit and connecting them to the new different adapter to save time and energy resolving my use case issue. In terms of the unit itself, it seems to be good quality; not to big as to block other outlets which countless other adapters will do. The wire length is great at 8m or 26.2ft or 315in, is 26awg stranded wire that is terminated with pre stripped and tinned ends, which even the flux used from their tinning process being cleaned off shows an attention to detail and QA/QC. Price is what you would expect for these types of adapters ($17 USD at time of writing) so it's a good value for money. No coil whine or noise can be heard and it does not generate abnormal levels of heat (granted only used the "touch method" instead of actually measure with say a infrared thermometer).

Works with our eufy e340 doorbell.
I’ve been using this 24V transformer to hardwire my Eufy E340 smart doorbell, and it’s been working great so far. Installation was straightforward, especially with the long cable — it gave me plenty of flexibility to route it cleanly without needing extensions. The power output is stable, and my doorbell stays consistently charged without any dropouts or issues. I also like that it’s wall-mountable and compact enough to keep things tidy. It feels solid and reliable, not cheap or flimsy. Overall, it’s a simple but effective solution if you’re looking to avoid constantly recharging your smart doorbell battery. Definitely a worthwhile upgrade for a cleaner, more permanent setup.
