This hard drive USB enclosure is great. I ordered another one. No tools needed, the cover slides out and back in. It fits the 2.5" drives very tightly, which is both good and bad. Good in that the drive has zero room to move around, bad in the sense that it might take you 2-3 times to attach the drive correctly. Also the cover itself is very tight.The material is plastic and there's no cover/pouch, only a cellophane. You have to really take care of this when you move it around. It comes with a short, but adequate, USB cable.Now the performance, I connected it to a Win 7 USB 2 laptop, it was recognized right away. In seconds I was copying folders of mixed data (photos, videos, text files) to the laptop at 5-15 MB per second, which for USB 2.0 is pretty good.

Works perfectly and is inexpensive. There are no assembly instructions but it was pretty easy to figure out. The supplied connector board only fits one way on the drive, and the orientation of the drive into the bottom case is obvious since the USB-C connector has to line up with the access hole. There are (4) screws, (4) rubber caps, and a screwdriver supplied in the package. The screws simply screw into the drive's top mounting holes and are then covered with the rubber caps. These effectively take up the extra space in the case, and prevent the drive from rattling around when the top cover is snapped on. As others have said, the cable provided is USB-C on one end, but the old style USB-A on the other. No big deal, but keep in mind that if you plan on hooking this up to a USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port you will need a different cable.

I used it clone SSD and when done, switch HDD to SSD laptop computer and stored old HDD. It started clone as fast (112.94 MB/s) but at end slowed at (55.63). 2.5" size is fine, but weak and light in side. The best about it; price. $7. It work but it was only one project. (poor writing, aphasia)

I recently switched from an obsolete desktop gaming box to a 2019 release gaming laptop and retired the (deceased) desktop box. all the HDDs went into a NAS., but i wanted to use the SATA SSD as an external portable, so, I chose this USB 3.1 enclosure.Assembly is dead simple, it comes with foam tape to attach to the bits to prevent the drive from rattling around inside, it's attractive, has a visible "disk access" light that's not annoying (LED inside the plastic case, shining through a translucent section), and, best of all in my book, uses a standard USB C cable. This means you can - for instance - flop back in bed with your laptop on your belly and have a 2 meter USB C cable attached to the drive which is resting safely on your bedside table (as I'm doing this instant) rather than dangling precariously over the side of the bed.At least with this (aging) Samsung EVO 840 250GB SSD, read/write speeds are great, but obviously what type of drive you install in this will play a role in that - a 5400 RPM 2.5" laptop drive might not do so great.

This did NOT fit for my Surface Pro 3 SSD. BTW, my Surface Pro 3 died but I was able to retrieve the SSD which has 18 + 8 pins which did not fit in this item that I returned.

This is perfect nice and clean finish eventhough the price is cheap it have a very nice finish with an easy assembly. There weren't instruction but its simple enough to figure out. I'm very happy with the product and the high speed transfer rate as I play assassins creed unity on it and Hell Let Loose with no noticeable lag from the external drive. Very happy and if I get another hard drive I would definantly buy again.

Took the hard drive out of my daughters old non-working laptop and placed it in this enclosure now I have an inexpensive back-up drive. The case is plastic but seem sturdy enough. I had metal cases in the past but those required two usb ports to work, this only requires the one. Ordering another for another drive that I have.

Bought this for a small SSD, so I could edit videos. Just what I needed.

The unit I received is NOT USB-C as stated, buyer beware.
