Good nutrition and exercise advice
This book offers a good mix of advice on motivation, nutrition and a gym workout plan. The lean body promise is a 12-week programme that requires you to workout for 30 minutes a day every day, and eat 5 small meals so that you even out your calorie intake throughout the day and avoid sugar highs and lows. This isn't a diet book as such but you get information about which foods are good and bad and about portion sizes. There is a seven day sample menu, some recipies and a fridge list to remind you about food groups. It won't help you to count calories and, in fact, this book doesn't suggest you count calories - the main message is to cut down on fats and eat balanced and healthy meals. You get workout plans with a choice of exercises so you can pick which ones to do and vary the workouts so they don't get boring. The basic plan is two days of weight-training, one day cardio. The book claims you can do the training in a gym or at home but you'd still need some gym equipment to follow the plan at home. If you're about to start going to a gym, then this books would help you get started by explaining how to workout and which muscles groups are being worked in each exercise. The book is written by former body builder and Mr Universe Lee Labrada, so it's about burning fat and building muscle, not just about losing weight. I found it very readable, although it is distinctly American which may not be to everyone's taste.
