The HemingWeigh Acupressure Mat is an effective wellness tool for relieving back pain and muscle tension while promoting stress-relief and relaxation. The mat is believed to increase circulation and blood oxygenation and is suitable for people with low levels of energy, high levels of stress, insomnia, backache and depression. By releasing this inner tension, we release a lot of the problems from depression to tense neck / shoulders and poor digestion. Regular use of the mat will help with this. With its Indian origin dating back thousands of years, the bed of nails is a well tested tool for healing the body. It has been used by Indian Yogis (yoga practitioners) throughout time to attain perfection of body and mind, and to reach deep inner peace. The original bed of nails was constructed of wood and metal nails. It helps to promote the release of the body's own pain-relieving and happiness hormones - endorphins and oxytocin- which help to release tension, create relaxation and promote a sense well-being. Acupressure mats were recently featured on the Dr. Oz Show where Dr. Oz showed some of the amazing benefits of using an acupressure mat! Basic positions target the back, stomach and hips. In a research study done by Dr. Zilberter, 98% of the participants reported pain relief, 96% reported relaxation, 94% improved sleep, 81% reported an increase in energy levels after using acupressure mats. These acupressure mats are made from high quality materials, made without any glue, and feature 8820 contact points to help relax your back, neck, shoulders, and legs. A tonic for a worried mind.
When you first lay on the mat, you experience a sharp, uncomfortable feeling, which fades to a dull uncomfortable feeling, but if you're willing to ride it out, the dull pain fades to a warm feeling in your muscles, and a pleasant sensation of blood rushing towards the surface of the skin.As you lay there basking in this warm relaxing feeling, you will likely fall into a deep sleep that lasts about 20-30 minutes (it's happened to me almost every time I have used it.) You will wake up feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. If you have more stress than you can handle, (and who doesn't?) then you owe it to yourself to take some time to heal yourself.I am racked with neuro-muscular pain, trigger points, etc. and have tried just about every product and service on the market. If your body is stupid like mine, I would recommend this product, and (in this order):YogaRumble Roller, Grid, or any comparable foam rollerRogue Supernova (if you can find one in stock)Tiger Tail, or similar stick rollerKong Large Doggy BallPeanut shaped balls, or tape two lacrosse balls togetherLacrosse ballsBouncy balls, golf balls, wooden, plastic or rubber balls of various sizes and hardnesses.A better pillow and or bedTENS UnitYou don't deserve to live in pain, and you don't have to. Try things until you find things that make your pain go away. It can and will get better.

Very nice acupressure mat
This mat is has a replaceable foam pad inside. I bought this product after using a similar pad that my friend owned. That one had an air valve like a thermarest backpacking pad. I was surprised but not disappointed to find that this product was not of that same design. The pad is thin and made of foam rubber, it will be the first thing to wear out on this product.Size is 16" wide by 26" long.I am 5'11" and it covers about 90% of my backFeels amazing on sore back muscles and helps reduce some of the pain from tendonitis I developed this month in my rotator cuff. After laying on the pad for a few minutes it feels very similar to icy-hot type balms. Some of you wonder how it works... here is a very simplified explanation of the theory... written by me, a scientist who studies human physiology...The science behind the pad as a pain reliever for minor backaches is reasonably sound. It relies on the pain modulating "Gate Control" theory. Basically, your nociceptors (nerves that detect pain) can be inhibited by mechanical stimulation of sensory nerves which are near to the nociceptor being inhibited. When the nearby mechanoreceptors are activated, they stop the signal that the nociceptors are sending to the brain. This theory is generally limited to cutaneous stimulation, but seems to be reasonably effective at blocking pain signals from the thin musculature of the back as well. Think about what happens when you get hit in the arm or bang your shin on a coffee table. The instinctual reaction is to grab or rub the sore area with the flat of your hand. By doing this the pain is reduced. This is due to the gate controlled modulation of nociceptors by mechanoreceptor stimulation. So as I said, the theory is reasonably sound. As a bonus, if you think the pad will work, your psychosomatic response will make it work.I absolutely recommend this product to anyone with mild back pain.Would earn a fifth star by offering a larger pad that covered my entire back or by increasing the quality of the padding.

Convenient and Cost Effective
I have suffered with chronic pain for over 10 years. The mat works extremely well for me. I looked up information on the origins of the acupressure mat and it appears to have been invented by a Russian scientist who suffered with chronic pain issues. He found acupuncture to be very helpful but expensive so he invented a mat with pins that would hit the pressure points on his back. It seems plausible that someone in pain would invent something like this. As many chronic pain sufferers know there is always a point where you get very creative in attempts to relieving the pain. This mat is simple in design and low in cost. The cover has a velcro fastener so the interior foam pad can be removed and the cover can be lightly cleaned. The mat comes in a variety of colors and has a large white logo on the back. Mine arrived with a plastic cover that I kept on the mat for the first few uses while I was debating on whether or not to keep it.I have found the mat to be my go to item for intense pain episodes. I have tried to take prescription pain relievers but they do not work for me. I have rebound pain that is worse after taking narcotics. I use many different things when the pain gets bad, but this one always works. My pain episodes are not as frequent as they were in the past so I find myself using the mat much less than I used to.Like other reviewers, it does really help me to fall asleep. In fact, I have dozed off while on the mat.I do recommend using the mat on a hard surface for the maximum benefit. I will use it on my bed and find it gives lighter pressure and not as much of a pain relieving effect. However, you may want to work up to this level. At first I had the mat with the plastic wrap and a towel in order to minimize the pressure. It was just too much pressure. But over time, I have come to crave the pressure because it bring so much relief. It is almost as if someone is giving you a very firm massage or back rub.I had acupuncture treatments for about a year. They became too expensive and I had to give it up. I was very pleased to find the mat because it gave me some of the benefits of acupuncture without having to leave the comfort of my home.
