This thing works...just make sure you know what your doing!
Just wanted to do a quick review on this item, as I see no reviews for the various vendors that sell it. Basically, this little tool will trim the excess mushrooming off of your tip. Now, it's not so simple to use as in you jam your tip in there and twist it! First, you have to be sure you set the depth right. You want the tip of the blade to be just above your ferrule when you insert the tip in, and I'm talking just a hair above it. You adjust the depth by twisting the knob in and out that is located on top of the tool. What this will do is make it darn near impossible for you to accidentally cut you ferrule.Once you get the depth adjusted, you actually trim the tip. This is fairly easy to do once you figure out it. The way I did it, was hold the shaft horizontally in my left hand (I'm right handed) and held the trimmer in my right hand. I rested the joint end of the shaft on an armchair so it wasn't flopping around. Make sure you hold the trimmer with the blade facing up, so you can see whats going on. Next, you just insert the tip into the trimmer, and slowly rotate the shaft. You will have to hold the tip up against the blade while you are doing this. Keep in mind, you are NOT trying to slice off a section of the tip, rather you want to "shave" the leather...You won't end up with a strip like peeling an apple, you'll have powder leather residue. Take off small amounts at a time like this, it doesn't take long to get a tip trimmed down.Once you are done, burnish your tip using whatever method you usually do, and you're ready to go!Hope this helps....I think this is one of the greatest gadgets that porper (or anyone) has came out with for mushrooming tips!

Porper's Mushroom Grazer
An inexpensive and well-designed tool that actually works. The blade is very sharp, and you can rotate it before you need to either replace or sharpen it. I was able to get the "hang-of-it" after using it only once on a cheap tip. I was confident enough with its ability to control the cut that I used it when I installed my new 14mm, $17.00 Tiger Sniper tip. There is a screw knob that runs through the center of the tool to allow adjustment to prevent the blade from contacting and cutting your ferrule. I gave it four stars only because the screw knob was made of plastic instead of metal.

Works great
Exactly the tool I need to do the fine tip trimming. I do a rough trim with a leather skiving knife. Then I use this for a fine trim. Next I spit on my finger and rub that spit onto the edge of the leather tip and burnish it with a rubber Porper burnishing tool. Even the very soft leather tips I use don't mushroom. Since I don't have a lathe, the hardest part is for me to shape the tip. It's just a little time-consuming. But it's faster than driving to a a shop, leaving it, waiting a day or two and driving back to get it. And I do it the way I want it done. I've been installing my own tips since I was 14 and I'm 65 now. The other tools you need are a tip sander to make sure that the ferrule top is sanded exactly flat; some good tips (your choice - I like Moori and Elkmaster but really, any good tip is fine for me) and some Loctite Professional Gel. You can install 50 Elkmaster tips for the price of one at the shop.

Precision tool for cue tips
Best shaver of tips I have used. Just be careful and don’t cut in to the ferrule..... yes it’s that sharp and exact.....trims mushrooms of tips easily ( I practiced shaving off mushrooms on the Poolhall house cues with this and it definitely improved those tips quickly)

Perfect for DIY
I can never justify paying someone to do work for me. This is another example. I shoot in a pool league and am constantly working on cues for other teammates and even opponents. This grazer is an excellent product to have and stays in my case wherever I go. The knob adjusts perfectly to the depth of any tip and makes easy work of a mushroomed tip. Great tool for installing a new tip or repairing on the fly.
