29PC Stubby Industrial Black & Gold Drill Bit Set 135 Degree Split Point

I bought these to use in my mini-lathe because the shorter bits should be more rigid. They worked great in my last project working with hardened 4140 steel. I had no trouble drilling all the way up to a 1/2" hole that was 1 1/4" deep. While more rigid than standard bits that are longer, you still need to center drill first for the best results.The box does feel cheap as other reviewers have said, but it's useable for me.

Machining a part in my South Bend lathe, spotted the hole with a center drill and installed this one in the tailstock chuck. Locked tail stock down and started feeding bit into the work. Didn't get even a single chip, bit shattered on first contact with the work. These bits feel good and sharp, and have drilled several holes through aluminum with them without issue, but apparently are too brittle for use in mild steel. Also, the box is exceedingly cheap feeling. UPDATE: I did manage to contact the seller through Amazon and sent pictures. Looking closely at the pics one can see that there was an existing crack in the bit. They sent a replacement that appears to be good. Updated my review to reflect good customer service.

Having to cut a drill bit down to fit in the space to drill a hole a few weeks ago I added these to my collection. I've used them a few times and so far hold up and drill well. If you find yourself drilling in tight spaces I think these will serve you well.

The case is pretty junky, I had to bend back the last row so the bits had something to sit on.The bits themselves look alright for the price although one of the bits looks like it was heated up too much when they were grinding it.UPDATE 1: Seller sent me a replacement drill bit for the burnt up one, good customer service!Will update when I test these out.

The drill bits look good and drill to tolerance. The box was in pieces on arrival. I was able to tack it back together.
