Not worth it for me.
The temps do not match what other temps give. I would hit a spot first time it is once temp the next time it is a totally different temp and never has given close to same temp twice. Next time ill spend a little more money to get a better product.

Very happy with this product!
Works great! Easy to use, very readable and pretty darn accurate. I compared it to the temperature a more expensive digital probe thermometer was giving and it was only off by half a degree. Being that close I'm very happy with it because it's possible the probe thermometer could be off as well. For what I'm using it for that little difference isn't going to effect anything. Amazed by the quality for the great price I paid. 5 stars!

Does just what it should at a great price.
We had a home energy audit and found the attic was really hot. I wanted to try a few remediations and see the results without having to crawl everywhere with a thermometer. This device did the job just fine. Not as fancy as the auditor's device which projected the results as different colors and showed what area was being measured. If you read the docs, you will see it measures some angle, so the further away you are, the bigger the area being measured. It worked out really well. Definitely a keeper.

since I already owned this very same model - I do believe that this was the best one of the several I picked up for him
Another item that I purchased to be a Christmas present to my son, since I already owned this very same model - I do believe that this was the best one of the several I picked up for him, since no sooner than he opened up the package, he exclaimed that he had recently thought about buying one and proceeded to run around the house "taking temperature readings"! While this is not a "must have" item, it does have its uses AND despite the most reasonable price for this model it does "do the job," even if not anything "professional"! At the least, it IS a "fun item" and I endorse it without hesitation or reservations! Enjoy!

Your food will taste better.
These use to be so expensive, at these prices I have no idea why everyone doesn't own one. Here is just a short list of what I use this for. Check the temperature of my oil when I deep fry. Is my pan pre-heated enough (Leidenfrost effect)? The laser works in both my cast iron and stainless pans. Am I going to burn myself if I touch the handle of my cast iron? Is my cooling custard ready to go into the ice cream machine? Temperature of water before I add it to bread dough. Is my food done cooking? What's the temperature in various rooms of my apartment? I've checked the temperature of my heated pet beds. This goes up to a 1000 degrees, I've measured my hated electric coils on my stove. This sits right next to my stove and use it half a dozen times a day. I was able to throw away my nonstick skillets after buying this, because I was finally able to bring my skillets up to the right temperature to prevent sticking. Since I would buy a new teflon skillet every other year this thing basically pays for itself. Find out the smoke points of all the oils that you like to cook with, and use this niffy tool to bring your pans right up to that temperature. You'll see which pans are garbage because the middle of your pan will say 400, and three inches away it will say 200. You'll be cooking like a professional in no time.

Works great. I use it while cooking to make sure I don't go over the smoke point of the cooking oil I'm using. Important thing to keep in mind is that the temperature displayed is dependent on the emissivity of the material you're pointing it at. So pointing it at an empty/clean but hot frying pan will yield a lower temperature reading than the same pan with even a thin layer of cooking oil. That's why you can (and should) adjust the emissivity setting on this thermometer based on the chart provided with it (or look up values online) depending on the material you are trying to measure the temperature of. The default 0.95 setting works well for water and most cooking applications.

Useful AND fun tool
Face it. You're going to spend more time randomly pointing this at things to see its temperature than actually using it for any practical purpose. (I'm pretty sure my dogs are annoyed with me pointing it at their paws...)But this is actually pretty cool device for all sorts of things, not just cooking. You can use it around the house to find hot or cold spots if you want to know where you're losing heating and cooling efficiency. You can check computer temps. You can annoy your significant other. And so on.This thing is reasonably accurate. I've used it while making homemade caramel sauce and it did a better job of telling me the sauce temperature (critical for not burning your caramel) than a candy thermometer.Just remember: This will only read the surface temperature. You can't use this for checking the inner temp of meats -- you'll still need a probe thermometer for that.

Awesome tool and toy.
I picked this up on a discount for $14, and it has been fantastic. As a new home owner its really hand to check for major air leaks around the house windows/doors. Its useful in a kitchen to know if a pan is up to temp and even. I found that 1 of my burners was slanted and un-evenly heating a pan with this thing.Another use was my wife wanted to store something in our garage, a quick use of this showed it was 20degrees F, below freezing, and therefore not a good place for her item. Its also a good amount of fun to toy with. Friends have gotten a kick out of checking forehead temp, vs in the mouth temp. LED light bulb temp, vs old light bulb temp (100 vs 350 F) ect.If nothing else, it serves as a better laser pointer for playing with the cat.If you are after a accurate thermometer, this probably isn't for you. At a range of like 10 feet, it is measuring an area something like a 6 inch circle.(it gives directions on range/accuracy). So if you are trying to measure a small area from any range, its not going to work well. But if you want to know how hot it is by your fireplace? - awesome tool and toy.
