Dumbbell hip lifts
Great addition to my workout but made for a bigger person!

Really helps my exercise
This is really easy to use and makes it where I can lift up so much more weight when I do my waist thrust. It’s very durable and comfortable and the Velcro keeps it staying right in place. This works great I would definitely recommend.

Functional
Nice strap that is used for hip thrust. Very easy to use and easy to store when not in use.

Makes hip thrusts way more doable!
So hip thrusts may be kinda silly-looking, but they are a wonderfully effective glute/hamstring exercise and I’ve been doing them as a regular part of my weight-training routine for a couple of years. Until now I had either balanced a dumbbell on my hips (quite uncomfortable), or a barbell with plates (more versatile on the resistance, but also uncomfortable). With these I always need to have a folded blanket/towel underneath to make it less painful and I was making due. But then I decided to try the hip thrust belt, and wow! way more comfortable and I can focus on doing the exercise instead of on adjusting for the awkward weights on my hips. The belt is super easy to use, just attach your dumbbells to either side. Highly recommend.

I don't get the hype
Background: At the gym, I usually did glute bridges with 135-175 lbs of weight on a barbell. Now that I workout at home with a selectable-weight dumbbell-based system in a very small space, I was hoping to use this to replicate what I was doing at the gym, but with the equipment and space that I'm working with. I'm writing this review mostly to help other folks who might be thinking along the same lines, to let them know that this isn't it. For that purpose, this was a dud. I guess maybe it works with very small dumbbells? But heavier dumbbells (mine max out at 71.5 lbs each) aren't something you can just drape across your hips. You have to get under them somehow. What I didn't account for is that an Olympic bar with 45 lb plates on each end sits several inches higher off the floor than the handles of my dumbbells do, and that unlike the barbell, my dumbbells won't simply roll over my legs to be situated onto my hips. So there's no way to get them onto my hips at all with this. If I loosen the belt so that I can place the dumbbells on either side of me and then attach the belt between them over my hips, the Velcro part of the strap isn't long enough to be secure, especially not with that much weight. And the dumbbells just dangle and even partially spin as they hang, which means the dumbbells get underneath me and need to be moved outward by hand with every rep so I can lower my hips to the floor. Meanwhile I am getting beaten and bruised by the weights moving around freely. And then I'm also completely pinned down unless I unstrap and start the whole tedious (and unsafe) process again for the next set. I give this 3 stars because it seems to be fine in itself (although I never had the chance to really put it to the test). It's as described. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work with smaller weights that *can* easily be left draped over the hips, don't need to rest on the floor between sets, and therefore can be kept on a shorter belt "setting" and won't get trapped beneath you every time you lift. And it might also work if I wanted to do hip thrusts rather than glute bridges. But I don't. I'm short and my bench is tall so hip thrusts won't work in my case at home. I tried to see if there was some way I could adapt these to use with resistance bands instead of weights, but it was just as awkward as using the bands without the belt because the angle of resistance (from hips to feet rather than straight down as with weights) is the same either way. All the belt did was decrease the resistance by adding length. So this is basically useless for me personally. I kept it because 1) it wasn't expensive and not worth returning, 2) it could be useful for physical therapy for my kiddo, during recovery after an injury, or in my decrepit old age lol when I can't lift as much weight. 3) There are no elastic parts or anything that I can foresee deteriorating with time if it's simply being stored until some future time when it might become useful. And 4) it takes up very little space to store. So I can't give it a high rating because it doesn't do (for me) the one thing it seemed to be designed to do -- allow me to use my dumbbells to perform glute bridges. But I won't give it a low rating either because it probably would work for people who use lighter weights or only want to do hip thrusts with it and not glute bridges (torso on the bench, instead of on the floor), and because it seems well enough constructed and matches the product description. But if you are hoping it will do what I was hoping it would do, it won't.

Good product but takes some effort
I've used this in the gym 4 or 5 times now. My new gym doesn't have a machine for doing hip thrusts so I got this in order to see if it would work. I had tried to use a bar bell, but even with a pad on the barbell, it was pretty uncomfortable and unstable for me. I've used this with 60 pound dumbbells on each side the 5 times that I've tried it. You sort of have to keep your hands on the dumbbells in order to keep them centered on the dumbbell handle. Otherwise they will slide down and make it harder to get the full range of motion for the exercise. Overall, the product is more comfortable to me than using a bar bell and I'm sure that over time, I'll get a better feel for strap placement and tricks to keep the dumbbells centered. I have found that this product works best if you are using a bench to do hip thrusts. I tried a couple of times with my shoulders on the ground but because of the angle the dumbbells immediately slip and make it hard to get weight up for the full range of motion in that position. A good product, but it will take some getting used to.
