Dunmore's New World: The Extraordinary Life of a Royal Governor in Revolutionary America--with Jacobites, Counterfeiters, Land Schemes, Shipwrecks, ... Royal Weddings (Early American Histories)

About these noble Scots . . .
You know, we Americans don't much concern ourselves with what the Brit's we up to, here, pre-revolution! I found this very read-able. The Earl is pretty much the sort of entitled fellow that many born to privilege are, still. He's self-indulgent, rationalizes everything he wants to do as, "well, what of it?" or "duty" or else he makes a wordy tract of how he misunderstood or failed to get so-and-so's communication: all the dodges still play, in hierarchy. I found this book did bring out the sorts of characters in play -- including the Americans, George Washington is a major player in the land-grab toward Ohio. I knew that he was a speculator, but I hadn't such a clear picture as I get in this work of the hubbub that was going on, and how the various tribes interacted, then. Native American's were not so oppressed in the eighteenth century as were in the next (and even more so, in my lifetime.) Yes, I recommend this book. It fills a space, and does a good job of it..

Lord Dunmore
I finally got around to reading the story of John Murray, Lord Dunmore. This guy was a royal Governor of first New York and then Virginia serving his King in an admirable fashion. Of course history overtook his Lordship and we in Virginia now do not see Dunmore in a favorable light even though he was a good Governor. The book is a good read, well researched, and presents arguments for a rebellion against both Dunmore and George III. It is a must read for any student of the colonial period of Virginia.

A Must Have
This is a great, informative book for anyone looking into the past about Lord Dunmore. If your into history I would say this is a must have to any collection. A well written book, and even though shipping took forever it was definitely worth the wait.

Very Informative
Dunmore is an interesting person but, even more interesting is this understudied time in American/British history that the book covers. Dunmore faced significant challenges while trying to manage the British new world foreign policy with little support from Britain. The story of land grants and Indian relations are fascinating. In the end Dunmore and his Government are overmatched by the events of the time. It is best read on a Kindle.I am not entirely unbiased because the author is my son.

A favorable view of Dunmore.
Still I am not convinced, but I found it interesting and it did fill in some blank spots of that period.
