MXR M80 Bass D.I.+ Bass Guitar Preamp Distortion Pedal with Footswitchable Distortion Channel, Noise Gate and XLR Direct Out with 2 Path Cable and 2 Instrument Cable

Got this to use at gigs as the band wanted to downsize and put most things through the board and PA speakers. We have decent subs so I took the try. It works perfectly and sounds just as good through some good subs as my Marshall amp. Distortion is easy to use. I would recommend.

I am working on my "silent rig;" a rig to take to a place with a full PA that has enough monitors that I don't need an amp, because my amps and cabs are flippin' heavy and super difficult to take in my '99 Camry. I run two amps: a low-end amp with a lot of wattage and an aluminum-cone 15" speaker which I run bassy and crystal clean, and a high-end amp which is a 50-watt all-tube guitar amp running through a 4x6 bass cab where 90% of my distortion comes from. I'm slowly getting stuff, such as a loadbox for my tube guitar head and today I got my MXR M80. I have a little XLR-1/4" adapter which I use to plug in headphones, so I checked it by playing bass through headphones. Whoo-hoo, the pedal and DI work, and the distortion is heavily based on that "SVT growl" that is so popular. I love the DI, it works whether the pedal is on or not. It really sounds huge, so that's great. What I later discovered is how awesome the output sounds going through the FX return on my low-end amp, so great in fact that I probably won't use the preamp of my low-end amp again. It sounds so huge, so bassy, so crystal-clean and I can use the volume knob on the M80 as a clean gain knob as the low-end amp's preamp.I should have purchased this 13 years ago when I could have. It will do so much for me.

This pedal works wonders for any bass. I have used both passive and active basses through it with flawless results. This thing is built like a tank and the phantom power option is a huge money saver. No need to buy batteries or a wall plug, as long as you use the XLR send to the mixer. The distortion isn't perfect, more of a grind, and you do lose a little bottom end, but even just running this clean, you can get all sorts of awesome tone. I set mine with the color switch on, bass and treble at about 12:30, and mids at 3. Great bass tone all around.The cables that were included were 18.6 feet long and 6" long, respectively. Shipping was fast, and absolutely no troubles. Arrived 2 days earlier than stated by Amazon too! All in all, great pedal for a great price.

I've been debating between this and a sansamp for MONTHS, and couldn't make up my mind. I decided to go with the MXR, and couldn't be more happy! The tone is great, and I can shape my sound the way I need to, to fit in the mix. The distortion is a bit "grindy" at higher levels, but is pretty good when used sparingly.

I don't know what the "color" button changes but it adds a killer tone to any bass, passive or active. This thing is staying on my pedal board and it'll be on any time I play. Very good purchase. I'll probably buy another for different gigs I play.
