Works, and works well!
I purchased this for my husband who has significant diet restrictions and gets deployed for up to three weeks at a time for emergency management, where it is even more difficult to control what kind of food you receive. My plan was to make extra meals each time I cook, vacuum pack and freeze, in the hopes that this cooker could get hot enough for long enough to warm from frozen. These are densely frozen bricks of food, so I was worried. But on my second try, it worked wonderfully! For those who have these aspirations, the only way to make it work is to have your frozen, sealed food in the metal pan and submerged in water (test run was done with room temp water), and in 25 minutes it was definitely warm enough to eat. The pack is still warm and it’s been another 20 minutes. I am impressed. (First try was with a frozen solid portion of the same size/wt/density simply in the pan. I hadn’t thought about adding water to help the process yet. Don’t waste your time on that!! It didn’t even fully defrost it.) The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because (even though I know the capacity was listed) it just could be a bit larger. But an 8” width Food Saver bag fits perfectly into this cooker. Good luck!

Okay in a pinch, but not great
This flameless tumbler will heat liquids and works on a principle similar to that of a MRE heater. I thought the idea was clever and had several uses in mind when I ordered it. After trying it out on a few occasions, I feel that it's not especially user friendly and that its shortcomings probably limit its use to emergency situations. As other reviewers have stated, it has no water fill line, making it possible to overfill which in turn can create a hazard. It can only be used outdoors or in very well ventilated areas because the chemical reaction that creates the heat also releases a gas (hydrogen gas I believe, which is flammable/explosive). The design leaves something to be desired in that it is not really difficult to burn yourself with boiling liquid, particularly if you haven't used it before and are unfamiliar with how it works. Also, the fuel packs for this tumbler are prohibitively expensive to use on any kind of regular basis. I kind of put this product in the same category as those NASA emergency space blankets, it's a neat idea and probably good to have in a pinch, but it wouldn't be my first or second choice if I had other options. This tumbler is now in a box with other emergency survival gear like a flint fire starter, water purification tablets, and those NASA space blankets. Bottom line, if you need to heat liquids and have no other way, this will work.. but, it's not cost effective or especially convenient to use...

Great!
I was skeptical, but it works great! I tried it the first time with my chicken noodle casserole- it took some time to heat and I had to stir it but it heated up quite nicely- to the point of burning my tongue! it takes several minutes to get really nice and hot with the heater packs so plan for about 20-30 minutes to really get it warm. I am hoping to use this out hiking and I would like to be able to add water, put it back in the pack and keep going for 30 minutes however I am not sure it will stay water tight. the food stays secure but the water in the outer container I think can more easily leak. To be fair I have not tried that yet....

Good food heater
Good cook ( heat up ) system for hiking/ kayaking trips. Small and lightweight it stows easy. Works good with mountain house and foods of the like. Your not going to cook raw meats with this but it does get hot enough to boil water. It has a removable neoprene sleeve around it for safety

Works, and Works Well
I agree with another reviewer here that a measurement tick on the outer cup would greatly help out with setting up the heating pad -- especially since the outer cup is transparent. It's very possible, though, that they did not do this because the amount of water will vary based on what heating pad you use. My only other issue is that the heating pad can sometimes be difficult to remove from the outer cup, but that has more to do with the shape of the heater than anything else. With that said, this thing is surprisingly good at bringing water to a boil. I'm used to MRE heaters that never quite make something hot. Working off that assumption, I very nearly burned my tongue off the first time I used this thing. It works quickly, effectively, and pretty much exactly as advertised. It would usually heat up a full serving of coffee in 10 minutes or so, even in below-freezing temperatures. I did not experiment with heating soups or other things like that, but based on its speed and heat transfer I believe it would work just as well for soups and chilis. Overall, this thing is better than expected, and just what I was looking for.

Works as advertised, excellent!
Got around to doing a first test at home. Easy to set up, added the water, secured the lid over the food. Fifteen minutes later, a nicely heated slice of MRE Pizza! Will try some wetpack food next time. One heater pacjet heated up well, making a lot of steam. Vented well. I am very satisfied, and consider this meal heater a good addition to my storm preps. Next power outtage, I can have hot food without risking open flame.

Not worth it since it can't even heat food ........
I was excited about getting my flameless Baro cooking system. After trying it today I am very displeased. I now know it is not worth it! I put it to the test with already cooked chicken soup, it was't even warm enough after the 20 mins. All it had to do was heat my soup.NOt even good for heating your food or to make a hot meal happen, All it can do is just warm food a little. Can NOT cook food for sure or bring anything to a boil, the simmering only lasts about 20 minutes per pack. you would prefer a camp stove that can actually heat or cook food. It was reasonable price $39.00 bucks and it is smaller than what it appears in picture so is easy to carry. (It is not so cheap when considering the price of the heating packs. I bought 20 for 40.00 bucks.) Not pleased with the BAROCOOK and what it does!

Works but would like to see a little improvement to the product.
Excellent. Pricey but it works great. Dinged one star because there are no measurement markings on the outer or inner cup. When you need to measure water to make something work it needs to be consistent. Filling a bag to a water line is room for error. Other than that, steaming cup of tea in about 8 minutes. Nice.
