Battlestations: Midway (Xbox 360)

This game has the perfect balance of strategy and action.Most RTS games either get too boring or too messy for me.Instead I prefer those with a strong action element like Enemy Unknown, Omerta and Carrier Command.And 'Battlestations Midway' is the type of RTS that I like.It should appeal to fans of both action and strategy games because it has a great mix of both.The campaign can be completed in just 8-9 hours, which is short for a strategy game.However the replay value is very high as you get a new combat experience each time around.That's the cool thing about strategy games.The unique thing about this game is that you simultaneously command a wide range of planes, ships and submarines.'Midway' reminds me of the old boardgames and PC games I used to play as a kid, only more advanced.In this game you don't just tell your units where to go and what to do, you can actually do it yourself as a gamer.This way you get to experience a wide range of combat styles. Which is what the game is all about for me.The game has a good and lengthy tutorial, which is necessary because the game is quite complex.Managing all the units simultaneously is very challenging unless you are used to RTS games.However even gamers like myself who prefer the action side of things will eventually get used to it.

Realism - as a strategy game it seems to have all the right components. With individual vehicles such as aircraft it is fairly basic play, but still engagingGraphics - Clear, but have to say expected better, but in fairness does not impair the gameplay.Single Player - You have much to learn and you are dragged kicking & screaming through the ususal cut scenes inbetween training, but you need to do this. Have not played the single player that much - but fairly engrossing.Online - This is what I bought the game for, it plays well and more smoothly than other online games. This does require teamwork, but as yet I have not experienced many people working together or passing on information - but early days. Do be aware that once all your units are gone, that's your lot and as another reviewer notes - these games seem to be at least 45 minutes long.Overall - I am happy that I bought the game, and it will certainly enjoy longevity of play - just can't shake the feeling that it could have gone that step further, but early days.

Tactical game, where you control up to 10 ships, planes, submarines, and marshall your forces in your own recreations of naval battles in the Pacific in the early part of WW2 (leading up to Midway - hence the name). You can play as either US or Japanese, and you can see whether the Japanese could win at Midway, for example. I prefer this game to the later-released Battlestations Pacific, which was dummed down, and less historically accurate, although in fairness the graphic presentation was better in the Pacific game. I have both, and never play Pacific, not least because it does occasionally crash the x-box. Midway is a great game, and really under-rated I think. I am surprised it was never more of a success when it came out. With teenage children (I am in my 40s), we have wall to wall X-box games in the house - but this is the one I always play in the rare occasions when I get a go on the x-box.

There are very few strategy games and this fills the gap nicely and works on Xbox One I am giving it only four stars because the sequel is better but does not work on Xbox One yet unfortunately

My 11 year old son really likes it and has spent hours playing with it. Great that they have to complete all of the training as well as playing the actual game

Boring, boring, boring !!! I wasted time effort and money, buying and playing this awful game.Seller was prompt, decent and top-notch. I bare no grudge with them. It was just a poor choice of game on my part !! UTTERLY AWFUL !!

Good game once you get to know the controls it becomes an enjoyable game to play . graphics are good and being able to pilot both planes and boats is more challenging.Good service came quickly would recommend
