Please do kindle version for ease of use and to enlarge the print!
I really like eyewitness travel guides. I got the same book when I went to Rome 15 years ago. I am using it again on this trip. One thing I did notice, that in 15 years my eyesight has declined. And it's very difficult to read the small print. Oh well, maybe one of my younger travel companions will be able to read it for us. Hey, Eyewitness! If you read this, please give us Kindle versions. Makes it much easier to travel with your guides. That way we don't have to lug around these heavy (1.5lb) books. Then I could also adjust the text size. (This is why this guide loses 1 star in my review)

Great book
This book is a great travel book with lots of historical notes and pictures along with suggested walking tours. It is written in a concise manner. After our trip it has helped immensely to identify some of the sites I took pictures of, but have now forgotten what the picture was of! This is the first DK Eyewitness Travel Guide I have purchased, but I would highly recommend it. The other great thing about the book is the large fold out and detachable laminated city map in the back, complete with a Metro map and information. It also contains a lot of museum information. All in all it is simply packed full of great information. The quality of the pages is absolutely wonderful, making it a "keeper" book. Lots and lots of photographs and illustrations and small area maps.

Great help for travelers
The book was definitely helpful in our recent trip to Rome. The pullout map was a good idea so you can look at the map while reading the details in the book so that helped us plan our small city trips better. There are more details in the book than we needed to know for a pleasure trip but there were many "a-ha" moments along the way that helped us enjoy some of the sites more. The color coding also helped us to quickly find the locale we needed to go to

A real bible -- I'll be looking for same publisher's similar work for other cities
Wonderful guide, best I've ever used! We've traveled all over Europe, probably 25 cities in the past 5 years, and I've used many guides, but this was like having a private tour guide right there with you every step of the way. Usual information, plus intriguing "little known facts," plus arranged in several different ways so whichever way one enjoys touring -- walking tours with excellent detailed maps, best food, best shopping, really cannot say enough positive things about this book (only negative is price and size -- 440 pages is a little hefty, but well worth the weight).

Buy it for the detailed map of Rome with churches/sites clearly labelled
Of the four guidebooks we took to Rome, this one was the heaviest -- so it was left behind in the hotel each morning! However, it is lavishly illustrated and makes for good "in advance" reading or "reminder" reading once a trip is complete. What was most helpful was the detachable Rome city map contained in the back of the book. We took this with us everywhere. It has many of the small streets labeled and the major churches/sites as well so did a better job than other city maps we had seen.

Not your pocket size edition...
I would have given this book 5 stars if it were smaller. I didn't realize that the Eyewitness books come in at least two sizes and this one is big to carry in a purse for traveling. The smaller size is so handy to slip in your bag but this one does have more information and pictures. I intend to study this one and perhaps buy the smaller one to carry along on my trip. Next time I will study the details of the purchase before I order.

Comprehensive
This guide seems to be well made and durable. It appears to be comprehensive and full of information. I haven't tested it in the field yet (trip isn't until 2019) but I feel more confident in my knowledge of the country having read this guide.

Amazing photos and explanations of la bella Roma.
Amazing photos and explanations of la bella Roma. The eteral city itself is a museum in addition to all the phenomenal museums. We are glad we visited before CoVid-19.

Another great DK Eyewitness book
Whenever I can, I always pick up the DK Eyewitness books when heading to a destination. Compared to the others, the DK books seem to have more maps, including ones focused in very small areas, photographs and also guided walks. The maps in this book proved particularly useful as I often headed off to see something that had caught my eye and the map would always allow me to get back to where I wanted to be.The only possible drawbacks are that it is heavier than some guides and also some people complain that these books are focussed on mainstream tourist attractions rather than hidden gems but if you only have a few days in Rome then there are too many mainstream sights to see anyway

Pretty good, but too chunky to take with you
Good points (quite a few) are: - Great pictures, as you'd expect - Clean easy to follow layout - Good practical information - Usable map at the back (with no imaginary metro stations - see the really annoying Insight Flexi Map: Rome , which does include these) - Good general tipsLess good - It's bulky and heavyEr - that's about it!It's a good guide so long as you're not travelling ultra light and don't want something you can take with you on day trips. My ideal guide for a long weekend would be small enough to carry, and might leave out some of the detail for the less central and spectacular areas - but I haven't found that yet. But if I did, it would look at lot like this, but edited down a bit.A good, thorough and usable guide. Recommended. Insight Flexi Map: Rome

Great book to take with you
I bought this for a 4 day trip to rome and it was perfect. Before I left, I had earmarked various pages with tabs which made it easier when I was there to plan which part of the city to do each day.The addition of guided walks in each of the main areas of the city was also a nice touch and other interesting items were found en route and off the beaten track in some cases.I also bought a pop up map but to be honest the maps in this book were better and bigger in scale. Its such a good quality book (much as you'd expect from the likes of DK) that its a little weighty but worth the buy anyway.I had been to Rome more than once before albeit a long time ago but I didn't tour it so well until I had this little diamond with me.

Good in depth coverage plus some helpful itineraries
I bought this for a 5 day visit to Rome. There is so much to see that it can be hard to know where to start, but my wife and I found the suggested itineraries very helpful, and then there is the detail to back them up so that you can properly understand what you are looking at.A tip: before going, I downloaded the free TripAdvisor Rome app to my phone. I found it pretty useless for sights (so a guidebook is still essential), but great for restaurants.

Excellent 2012 edition - note comes with free separate map of central Rome
I usually buy lonely planet guides but the Rome edition got very poor reviews ad I am now a DK convert. Nicely laid out - plenty of pictures to help identify things. What it doesn't say in the product info is that this comes with free separate laminated map of the city centre which we found very useful (separate from the book). Not as wordy as Lonely planet and I personally could have done with a little more information / history and perhaps a few less pictures but I would imagine that would also put some people off as well. All in all - very happy with this
