ESSDEE Ink Roller/Brayer (Soft) 100mm, Blue

These soft rubber rollers are great and give great coverage. Although I initially received one that had a flaw in the rubber roll, the process of returning and having a replacement was a very simple process. The replacement had no flaws and works perfectly, giving me great coverage for lino printing.

I don't have any other brayer (roller) to compare this to (I didn't know what a brayer was until just before Christmas), but I am pleased with it so far as it is comfortbale to use and smooth. All I knew was that I needed a soft roller to use with my new gel printing plate. This one seemed good value and had decent reviews. I'm happy with it but I guess that I might need a larger one if I get a bigger gel plate in the future. My gel plate is 6"x6" and it is pretty much the perfect size for that. It rolls smoothly and cleans up by rolling excess paint onto scrap paper. I don't really have any problems with lines, which seems to be more about how you roll anyway. Overall I am pleased with this brayer.

I’d never used a brayer before and found this one to be very easy to use. Did the job well. Very sturdy and strong. Would recommend.

I love Essdee products, I have the hard roller (with red handle) and after using this soft one, I don't use any other. This one is by far my favorite. I only do small lino carvings (not larger than A5). I totally recommend this ink roller!.

Nice brayer

I had to return this roller as the edge of the rubber protrudes, creating unsightly lines when I tried to ink up my linocut. Quality very poor compared to the other Essdee rollers I own. They are harder though, and I think the issue is that they obviously can't get a soft enough rubber that maintains structure at such a low price point. Hence why professional grade ink rollers tend to be softer but very expensive. I'm going to have to save up for a while and invest in one though.

Ended up buying from a local store because my package wasn’t properly delivered. EDPM is the best substitute for latex brayers to use for gelli printing that I’ve found. I’d recommend matching brayer size to your plate size. Otherwise, it’s great. Easy to clean.

I wondered why it was working so badly so I tried it on a piece of paper and it all became clear. The roller is uneven in the the possible way! It is essentially concave, that is much thicker towards the edges than in the center. This not only means it is very difficult to coat the lino block evenly, especially the edges, but if you roll it over a small carved out section that should stay white, the protruding edges push down into the hollow and deposit ink exactly in the places you don't want it! This is completely unusable and I'll have to throw it away.

Contente d'avoir pu mettre la main dessus ! Cette version "soft" est plus pratique pour une application sur des plaques de linoleum en caoutchou souple, et elle s'applique plus facilement. J'imprime sur du tissus et le coté souple permet de garder plus de matière pour le transfert. Le résultat est parfait !

I bordi esterni del rullo sono irregolari e slabbrati e lasciano molte righe sulla superficie da inchiostrare (usato su piastra gel per stampa). La scatola del prodotto è arrivata già aperta e rotta, probabilmente per urti ricevuti durante la spedizione. Oltretutto il rullo era già molto sporco di polvere.
