I bought this drive to replace an OEM Philips DVD R/RW in an older Dell Dimension E510 desktop. It pairs very nicely with an LG Blu-ray optical drive that I had already installed. I tried installing SATA drives using an IDE to SATA adapter, but I was never able to successfully burn a disc. So I had to fall back to an IDE/PATA drive. I found this one and it fits the bill just fine. I've successfully burned to disc where the SATA with the adapter approach failed. The drive is pretty quiet. It's reasonably priced, although the SATA drives that I tried were cheaper, and they were new, compared to this one, which is used. The main reason for the upgrade was to gain the ability to burn double layer DVDs, which the Philips could not. I also wanted to ensure that I had a drive other than the Blu-ray that could read double layer as well. I couldn't be happier with the drive.

Exactly as described - Drive was easy to install and only took a couple of minutes to get the computer running again. FYI the company sends a card that provides a contact if you have problems. The DVD drive was perfect to replace the one that was broken in my old Dell computer.
