Out of this World, a Stellar Calendar and An Instant Collector's Piece.
After last year's 2018 Calendar took us back to one of Tintin's first adventures- Tintin in the Congo this year's takes us to the safer ground and subject of Exploration of the Moon.Yes, readers the proud boast of Herge to Neil Armstrong and his crew- Tintin got there first.Indeed a popular cartoon that the Herge studios produced had a non-plussed Neil Armstrong taking his great leap for a man being welcome by a space-suited Tintin, Haddock and Snowy on the surface. The calendar's theme is from the two Tintin booksDestination Moon and Explorers on the Moon.I predict that this fabulous subject, combined with the excellence of Tintin Calendars together with the brand name of Tintin will make this year's a quick sell out and a much valued collectable calendar for the future.(At the time of writing some popular calendars in this range are being offered for £100 and upwards and people are glad to obtain them even at that price.)My advice is order NOW and keep your fingers crossed that Amazon is able to maintain supplies. (They let me down one year in the past).Right, I better start reviewing the calendar properly,As you expect you get 12 monthly pages 30cms x 30cms with the back page of the previous months containing the actual months' calendars. The spaces are big and bold enough to write all your important dates on-the trouble being if you don't take care NOT to print too heavily or worse use a pen that bleeds through the page you may ruin the next months print. This would be a shame because they really are begging to be framed for display. But I imagine that most people will not dare to write and hence ruin such a beautiful collectors piece as this calendar never mind cutting out the pages. As with previous years, the designers have put a lot of thought and care into selecting the best pictures to use. They cannot please everyone- I, for example, would prefer all to be in colour and from the actual action on the moon but others are sure to be delighted by the mix of monochrome, buff tinted and coloured subjects included.(I will attempt to post a picture of the back cover that shows all the months)The compilers have included at least 3 stand out depictions one is where Calculus, Tintin and Haddock are looking out of a 'tail porthole' at the retreating earth. Others have a brilliant detail from the takeoff pad where Herge's brilliance in his 'ligne clair' style really comes to the fore.Whilst I am here I would also point Tintophiles in this direction. If I can give you one tip is try and get hold of a second-hand copy of The Making of Tintin-Mission to the Moon. This is a hard to find volume that explains the origins, source material and background to the books as well as printing both books in their entirety. (I am fortunate to have several in the series they are wonderful and well worth seeking out.)Overall?A fabulous calendar, a brilliant edition to the Tintin series of themes and my prediction?A quick selling out and a much treasured collectors piece for the future.Thank you so much for reading.

One of the best Tintin adventures
These Tintin calendars are a real find, and I wouldn't be without one now, having first discovered them about four years ago. I can't bear to throw the used ones away, and intend to someday frame some of the best pictures for display on the wall. For those of us old enough to have wondered what space travel would be like these two Tintin books were exciting and fascinating. "Destination Moon" included Prof. Calculus' "acting the goat" rant, one of the funniest passages in any of Herge's books.
