I bought the XIKEZAN Beard Grooming Kit as a gift and it was a big hit , he absolutely loves it. I have been making my own beard oils for a while now so I didn't really need that. But I needed some more balm, I could do with a new beard brush and a little pair of beard scissors could always come in handy so at the price, I decided that this was a cracking little buy and took a punt on it.The comb is nice enough, it's very lightweight I have a similar one made of cedar wood which is probably 3 times as heavy. If I had to guess, I would say it was made of pine or something similar and will be great for taking on holiday to keep the old luggage weight down.The brush is bigger than I was expecting but that's a good thing. The bristles are firm enough to do a lovely job on my beard but soft enough not to scratch the skin (a tough combination to achieve).The scissors are small, metal and sharp, they cut the hair and don't pull when they're doing it. Not a lot more I can say about them.Now the important stuff.The balm. It comes with a little warning saying that bubbles could form from gases in the wax etc, it looked like it had been poured that morning, it was perfect. Also, it's a little softer than the ones I've used recently, some of those have been the texture of a block of yellow lego and you need to rub them in your hands with the kind of vigour last seen by Mr Miyagi at the end of The Karate Kid. This, however, is softer, I suspect they use a higher ratio of shea butter to wax than the others. It's nice, I like it. It also has a slightly citric fragrance. It's supposed to be orange but my nose picks up more of a lemony or perhaps grapefruit notes. Either way, it's a good clean smell.The oil. First of all, this is a very light oil. It gives a nice finish and is great on the skin. If you have a beard that goes all over the place this won't be heavy enough calm that frizz, saying that, if you use it alongside the balm you'll be fine. The oil is almost scentless. That's not a bad thing as it doesn't then clash with anything else you may be using, it also means that by having very little in the way of essential oils it won't bother people with sensitive skin.Overall this is a great little set that depending on the type of beard you have and how often you use it will keep you going for a long old time. Good quality and great value for money.
