They are sturdy but I don’t think wider than 8mm

Q: Once the laces are closed, can you open them back up to remove?

Yes all you do is unscrew the metal piece. I actually could not get the laces to go through the metal piece so I just double ties the laces for my dad. He loves how easy he can slip in and out his shoes.

Q: High-top Nikes: I’d like to know if the laces were long enough to fill most of the holes on a sport high top?

The laces are definitely long enough, but I made the mistake of cutting them too short and the laces kept unraveling and I wasn’t able to place the black caps back on. Sorry to say but I wouldn’t recommend this product at all.
