This is fantastic! Very easy to use if you have arthritis or a hand injury.I have wasted so much money on the cheaper lighters at the local store, only to be caught stranded without fuel or clicker stopped working. This one does NOT have to be filled with fuel, so you don't have to have a flammable fuel refill container in your home. When you press the button a tiny spark occurs at the tip, that immediately lights the gas in your gas fire place or gas BBQ. You can tell that it is working because you can look at the end and see the spark & you can hear a little click sound. The large button is very easy to push button with no awkward- stand on your head while rubbing your tummy hard to operate clicker that the cheaper ones have.I no longer singe my cuffs/wrists when lighting my gas fire in my fire place, as it is about 2.5 time longer than the cheap ones. Remember, you need to have gas to ignite. It will not light a candle wick. It will only light a log in your fire place, if it is a gas fire place & the ignited gas catches the log.I suggest you read Frank's story on his web site Sparkloglighter. He is an inventor & below I pasted from his site -the reason he developed this lighter. I hope it helps those who need an easy to use lighter.Frank - After suffering a minor hand sprain, I went to light a fire one night and realized how difficult some of the butane starters are to use. You have to push a slide on the top with your thumb and hold it forward while firmly pulling a trigger to activate the piezo electric igniter. While this is not a difficult feat for someone who has properly functioning hands, it can be difficult for someone with weak or injured hands. The Spark light company owner Frank, is the most efficient person ever. He was on his way to catch a plane for his Xmas vacation, yet still emailed me twice to answer a question I had about it. I enjoy lighting my fire now instead of dreading it! And, the lighter looks good rather than an ugly red plastic thing. It even arrived day before Xmas, even though I had not ordered it on time. This was like a Xmas gift, as my heating thermostat had broken & the cheap store lighter was also broken & I wanted my home to look cozy.Hope this helps you to understand how this works. Thanks Frank for having such a useful lighter.

Does not work!
This lighter is a waste of time and money. One example: I tried to light the gas pilot for the oven in our camp trailer. It would not light it. However the pilot lit fine and easy with an open flame lighter. Save your money and buy an open flame lighter.

Lights my gas fire pit as well as a Bic long neck lighter and from two or three times the distance.
It is really great. No butane to refill, because this starter has no flame, just an aaa battery.

Dont waste your money on this POS. It did not light one time for me. Even when I used a different battery. Save your money.

does not work well with my Gas Stove Can take only a few sparks or many to ignite the gas. Went back to using a long wooden match

Will not light gas log fireplace quickly
This seemed like an ideal solution to lighting a gas log fireplace, especially with its long reach. It should in theory work, since it is the same mechanism which effectively lights gas grills. However, I was disappointed to find it will not light our gas logs unless you wait an uncomfortably long time for the gas to build up. This seems too risky to me, so I went back to butane lighters which ignight the gas immediately. It may be too weak a spark and too recessed to light some gas appliances quickly.
