Jumanji

My son spent most of this with his mouth wide open! He's four, and was fine at the end, but I can imagine that it could be quite upsetting for some youngsters - just a warning.That said, it's a fantastic feat of imagination. I remember the Robin Williams film from my own childhood, but my UK youth never included the original book.It reminded me of The Cat in the Hat somewhat - two bored children inadvertantly letting chaos (and creatures) into their house while their parents are out and hoping it's all back to normal by their return.Of course, Jumanji isn't quite Thing One or even Thing Two. A board game for 'bored' children, each move comes to life... so soon there is rain in the house, monkeys... a lion! They must play until someone wins.My boy was pretty shocked by it all, but I kept going and he seemed to understand it was all a story. The pictures really are wonderful - an unusuaul black and white throughout, that works as a series of beautiful drawings (some, especially of the children, a little reminiscent of Anthony Browne's style).It's a moral story - look what might happen if you say YOU are bored... Are you really?! The ending feels a little abrupt, I wanted the chaos to go on a little longer (probably remembering the film), but it's already quite a long read for a preschooler, with a fair amount of text per page to read through. My son a couple of times did try to turn the page before I'd finish, anxious to see what would happen next.We both liked the ending, and he seemed to like the whole thing.Very lovely to look at, and an exciting story full of danger and long pages, which does mean it's not ideal for under 3s.

un bel libro per bambini o per i curiosi che vogliono vedere da dove è partita l'idea del film del 1995. Abbastanza ingombrante come dimensioni, con figure in bianco e nero che personalmente non mi dispiacciono.

J ai reçu le livre en espagnol. Il a pourtant été Commandé en français , reçu en espagnol. Dommage pour ma classe. Amazon très réactif me l a rembourse aussitôt après restitution dans un relais.
