Hands down my favorite DS game.
I can't recommend this game enough. I've spent over 84 hours on it so far and it's just absolutely fantastic. I tend to not enjoy games that are overly repetitive (looking at you, Lego), but though there is some backtracking in these games, the career process still makes it fabulously rewarding. For people who enjoy mini-games and never feel like there's enough in a given game, this title has an entertaining if youthful plot and the career system is basically one long running mini-game. I cannot express just how much I adore this game! Without giving away any of the plot, a quick break-down of the career system: Collecting careers, where you wander around the map and do various tasks to get items to craft or sell. Crafting careers, where you can make armor, food, or weapons out of items you have bought or collected in other careers. Adventuring careers, where you basically go out and fight or hunt things (which will also allow you to collect materials). Not a fan of a given career type? There are others for you to try. You can buy and sell materials, so you don't have to collect everything you use. A well-rounded experience in each of the given careers is required to really reach higher classes in one, however, unless you have a lot of extra in-game currency! I was really nervous about switching careers for the first time, but you can still use the talents of a given career (and continue to level it up!) while actively pursuing another, so it's easy to build your skills more than one at a time. The only real exclusion to this that I've found is in the adventuring careers; most challanges for these are to defeat a certain number of monsters AS that career, so if you defeat a monster as a Hunter it won't help you advance as a Mercenary (or is it soldier? It's been a little while since I picked it up). In conclusion, get it, and go play it. Play it a lot. It's super freakin' fun. I definitely recommend it for anyone who enjoys collecting items and building up skills. There's a lot of career based "grinding" but the game keeps it so fresh and fun that I loved every moment of it! If I got tired of one area, I just moved on to the next until I wanted to come back to it. The RPG that's the main plot is a fun distraction, too (though I wouldn't buy the game solely for the plot). I played for 84 hours over a period of two or three weeks, then got distracted by a new game, but writing this now makes me want to pop it in my DS and fire it right back up. Again, get it!

One of the best out there...well worth the money!!!
I came back to review this, and saw my original review never went through...I had rated it after a day of playing it and only gave it 2 stars! I picked it back up a couple months ago and have played it nearly nonstop! There is SO MUCH to do in this game! You get to choose your Life, or Lives really. I started out as an Angler (fisherman) and it was really fun. Later, I almost wished I'd started off as a Paladin or Mercenary because I really needed those particular stats to beat higher "monsters". Presently, I'm at Hero rank as Angler, Paladin, Carpenter, Cook, Woodcutter, and a Master at Crafting. Honestly, I'm glad I didn't start out my "main" or first life as a crafter, carpenter, cook, or woodcutter. Maybe it's ok if you switch often into other lives like Paladin for instance. I'm finding Paladin to be probably most important as I've got the add-on content of Origin Island and the enemies are even harder to defeat. It's charming, I love the scenery and the characters, and the fact you can buy different houses in different lands and decorate them, also there is the quick travel which helps immensely when you're striving to complete certain quests. I have played so many hours on this, and still have several lives to start still. I think sewing will be fun to make new outfits but for now I'm so busy battling I'm usually in my Paladin gear. There is just so much to do in this game it's unbelievable. You shop, buy, sell, create, decorate, chop down trees, mine, become an alchemist, do witchcraft, craft, make furniture, battle, fish...and going to different lands makes for an amazing experience. The graphics are great and the details are amazing. As the storyline progresses as well you are able to add many different parties (like the Princess, the Dark Lord, and many others) to accompany you on your adventures. When you level up you get points you can add to you or other members in your party (like attack, intelligence, dexterity, etc). There is no shortage on what you can do!

Surprisingly good game, though not as much like Animal Crossing as I expected
I have been having such fun with Fantasy Life. It does seem almost addictive, and I have been enjoying it more each day. I am a long time Animal Crossing fan, and although I don't personally happen to think that Fantasy Life is very similar to Animal Crossing, still it has a lot of appeal. Since I enjoy fishing best in Animal Crossing, I chose to be an angler first, and that has been fun. Fantasy Life provides a lot of quests to work on - - you will have over a dozen after just a few hours of game play. For example, my quests included catching particular types of fish, finding out how to get a pet or a better home. You don't really have to complete most of the quests by any particular time, but completing them allows you to progress and improve your skills. The quests and story line are similar to an RPG, or at least those are my thoughts. These quests create a more structured environment for your game play than in Animal Crossing. Yes, I can just go fish when I want to, but always in the back of my mind there are these quests and story line. (Edited to add:I had to change my 4 star review to 5 stars after a week or so - - this game REALLY grows on you and the more I play it, the better it gets. I love the quests and story line so much more now that I have made some progress in the game. If you feel even slightly disappointed with it, just keep playing because this is an amazing, terrific game that takes a while to develop.) The music/soundtrack in Fantasy Life is great, in my opinion. Gameplay reminds me of older games in sort of a sweet, old fashioned way, but to me that is not a bad thing at all. Graphics could be better, I suppose. But it is still a lot of fun to play. Although I haven't done it yet, I love the idea that I can change my life. Will I be a woodcutter? A paladin? What a great game with so much to do.

Love it.
Cons: *Music doesn't really stand out as memorable, but it also shouldn't send you running for the mute button. *You can only own one house at a time instead of collecting them. I guess since they're all owned by the same landlord, it would be silly to buy all of her properties & own multiple houses in the same town, but that doesn't prevent you from wanting to. *You can only have 2 traveling companions, so if you bought 3 pets, you'd have to leave one at home. *You can't have any traveling companions during story adventures, nor can you buy the mansion until you've completed the story. *Some JRPG fans will be disappointed by the lack of marriage system. *There is DLC. The kind that unlocks whole areas & covers both companion friendship points & companion leveling. Pros: *Lots of replay value, since you can switch between a wide variety of jobs. You can't do all the the quests with just one job. *It's like a nice cross between a fantasy RPG & Harvest Moon, so Rune Factory fans will love it. *Great character customization, plus you can collect & mix-match outfits instead of being stuck with a job uniform day in & day out. *You can own 3 pets, you can make them travel with you, you can even make the sword slinging tomboy princess or her equally kickass mom your companions much latter in the game. *You could play it casually, but you're far more likely to sink hours away into it. I even lost sleep over it. *Gorgeous world, especially the tropical area. *The mobs that come out at night are often different from the ones you see during the day. Also not a lot of reskinned character models, so the monsters are more unique per area. *The characters are quite amusing, making for a more interesting story. Your sidekick is a sassy talking butterfly. Note: There is an Android/iPhone game called Fantasy Life 2. It's little more than an upgraded port of this game with the same characters & story, so you really shouldn't accidently buy both. If you happen to own an iPad or Android based tablet & want to play on a larger screen, then you may want 2 instead.

Fun and enjoyable game
Fun game . It's cute has a good story line you get to design your character/s if you like to have more then one .try different life's and go on quests and own pets which can battle alongside you .furnish your multiple homes since you can own one in each town . You battle and can collect things and make them as well also you may add the different in game characters you meet to your group to journey alongside you .It's got a good amount of game play / replay value if you enjoy this sort of game .there are additional packages you can buy to open more options up .so it's not a bad purchase I like this game and find it enjoyable and I've had it since it first came out . It has a little of everything you know and I got a lot of game play out of it and I haven't even finished it yet or gotten too far just because I get distracted or busy with life in general ,but starting over or picking back up really isn't that hard . It's one of those games worth keeping because you never know when you'll feel like picking it back up again to play . When I say characters I mean you can make different ones as many times as you want but that's when you start anew sadly you can't make up extras or teammates but then again who knows I've never purchased an upgrade package or played in awhile maybe there's more I don't know about this game . If I recall correctly or it hasn't changed and the game is still well played I think you can add in other players around the world if you get online but don't quote me it's been too long and plus I don't know 🤔 if anyone does that or if many play this game anymore to enjoy that feature.

One of the best RPG games I have ever played
One of the best RPG games I have ever played. I don't use the 3D effect too much but the features are still really beautiful. I like that you can chose 12 lives. I recommend to become efficient in every life class. I started off with the Paladin and use him as my main character with whom I do the Bliss Quests which is the main story line. To learn how to mine and fell trees and to fish is very useful while you explore the different areas. Other trades such as Blacksmith, Carpenter or Alchemist and Cook are also useful to learn. I like making my own furniture or cloths as example. Each life has its own set of quests. Even if I finish a quest while I am in a different life the game will let me know. The credit though for completing those quests can only be received once you change into the life to which the quests belongs to. I try to keep an balance between fighting my way through the game and trying to create items I can sell or use for myself or meals I can also sell. In the game you have a general leveling up and also a certain level you can gain through your quests within a that life. Once you finish a certain pain in the main story you also invite other characters in the game to fight with you and you can play through your internet with other players once you befriend them and they own this game as well. I know the game can be redundant, you always have to collect items or constantly have to battle monsters, but I also like games like Harvest Moon or Rune Factory or Pokeman. I received 3 DS games this Christmas from my children, I am an older player, and this is my favorite game ever. I will buy the expansion pack eventually and I hope that they will develop more expansions to this game. I am totally hooked on this game and I do appreciate the prettiness of the game. I would buy this game again.

Excellent Game!
Fantasy Life has easily become one of my new favorite games. There really is a lot to enjoy here. This a very detailed and creative world with elements of many great games, mixed together in an entertaining way, yet Fantasy Life forges out its own unique identity. The dialogue is funny and clever, and it reminds me a bit of classic Paper Mario writing. The adventuring has a little bit of a Zelda feel to it, with the sword play and exploring. There's aspects of Animal Crossing with the collecting of items and designing your room and outfit, if you like. And there are elements of Rune Factory in here too, with the simulation and crafting aspect. As for the atmosphere of the game, it's mostly has an upbeat and colorful vibe, though there are some slightly darker moments mixed in as well, so the game does good work of keeping the story interesting. What I also very much enjoy is that the designers did great work with the interfaces and menus too. I didn't find the interface screens to be clunky or unclear. I felt as if there was a lot of thought put into the menus to make it very user friendly. If you enjoy light-hearted RPGs with catchy music, big, detailed world's to explore with great personality, clever writing, nice graphics, and a sense of humor, you'll enjoy this game. It really is a lot of fun with a great amount of depth.

My FAVORITE new game!
This is my new favorite game! I love games that allow you explore and interact with the environment, collect items, and build a character. This game satisfies all of this and more! You can pick the life you want to lead (your job, basically), gain experience, collect items, and satisfy small quests. When you're tired of that, you can select a whole new life for your character and start again while keeping all the skills you learned with your last Life! As you gain more experience or try new Lifes, the way you interact with the game changes so you can do new things and go to new places. I only gave it 4 stars because the actual story line of the game is incredibly lame and boring. BUT, you don't have to follow it much and mostly you can do what you want. Going through the different levels for each Life and gaining experience is a lot of fun and it has a ton of small tasks and quests that I found to be more interesting than the main story line. That's what gives is so much replay value. I highly recommend this to people who like SIM games.

Sencillo
Un juego muy casual y sencillo con una historia ridicula, pero las mecanicas son muy entretenidas y te dan ganas de llevar todos los oficios al grado de leyenda :)
