If you're looking for an amp that delivers get it
My guitarist went through several different amplifiers trying to find the best one for his tone. He tried an orange Half Stack and a Line 6 Spider between the two both were inferior for the price so I made a suggestion to buy a brand that is simple and that i have used nearly my whole life and that will just working whenever you need it to with no surprises. I told him to get a peavey. From day one this amp made him sound unbelievable not only is this amp light but it's loud and clear and with the ability to change your tone from vintage to Modern or to a sharp cutting clear sound. When we play out at a gig it is common for other bands to ask us to use our amp because of how unique and clear you can make this thing and to top it all off the recording output on the back is specially designed to mimic the speaker it comes with so no need to limic this amp for recording this amp is amazingly priced for what it is and as a musician looking for a great amp that easy to take from gig to gig this amp is a no-brainer

Great Bread and Butter Amp
Now, I don't think this thing really sounds like a tube, but I do think it sounds great. To me, the drive is kind of like 'nylon'. I've read other people describe all solid state amps as 'plastic sounding', but to pick nits, it has a 'nylon' sound to these ears. One big bonus is that, to play through it; it 'feels' like a tube amp, with a bit more 'give' and not so much 'immediacy' as you might expect from solid state. In any case, there's no doubt that the volumes available through this amp would give a guitarist the ability to hold their own whilst jamming with other musicians. Due to living situation, I've got this on the 20-watt setting and even at '25%', it sounds really big. Definitely could get some 'noise' complaints if it were cranked up, even at 25% power. Anyway, it's not quite tube but it is excellent all the same. YMMV (Features include Direct Out, FX Loop, and the aforementioned 'Power Attenuation Switch' (25%, 50%, 100%))

2 stars to split the difference, noise issues
I've owned lots of guitar amps. I had a Peavey Bandit for 35 years and it was a reliable, portable, nice-sounding amp so when I went to retire it I read the reviews and ordered a new Bandit on-line (the local shops didn't have one in stock). Before anything was plugged in I heard a noticeable hiss coming from the amp that only got louder when the reverb was turned up slightly (to 2 or 3). The same thing happened with the Boost control - no instrument, control only turned up a little bit. I A/B'd it with the old Bandit which was nearly silent under the same conditions.I liked the sound of the amp but nothing I tried eliminated the hiss. E-mails and a phone call to Peavey customer service did not offer any answers. I'm returning the amp.

This is a great amp. Very loud
This is a great amp. Very loud. I play with my drummer no problem. If you tweak it right the sound can cur through the band and really stands out when you apply boost on board/external boost for solo.I personally like the lead channel. All three modes in the lead channel are great. Use a noise gate if you are cranking it up, it's kinda a noisy amp but i can totally suck it up due to the high gain I am putting it at. I'm not very into the clean channel somehow. IMO I prefer the clean sound coming out of my 1997 old Crate amp.Make full use of the effect loop. It will help you get better tone for sure especially if you are using external amp modeling/profiling equipments.

what an amplifier!
my son paid most of the cost of this item but used my amazon account to avail of the 'prime' free shipping.. it was received as promised and the sound was amazing.. i have to ask my son to play his guitar using this amplifier in the car garage as it seems like a professional sound range, and asked him to use ear muffs as well.. one of my neighbors commented that he did hear my son playing the guitar and he liked the sound of it.. this is high-end amplifier at a reasonable price.

Not Sexy But Rock Solid
These are underated (as most Peavey gear seems to be) Most of the reviews have mentioned all if the positive points of this amp so I waste time repeating them. I purchased one of these as a practice amp about 5 years ago. I'm mainly a bass player but needed an amp to replace my confusing Line-6 Spider 3. I use pedals so I don't need buil in effects and I hate scrolling through digital menues. This amp is rock solid in the reliability department and sound very good for a solid state amp. It's fairly inexpensive and its plenty Loud to gig with. I run my pedal board directly in to the front end and they work great. 5 years and no issues. It has been loaned out, used by people I don't know , dropped while being loaded out and its still going strong. A friend of mine has a similar pre - Transtube version from the 80's and its still going strong. Peavey makes well built gear that is a great value. It may not be Sexy to have Peavey gear but this stuff won't let you down.
