Great Well-Made Flashlight But Wish It Were More Like a Maglite in Certain Ways
The flashlight is very well-made and incredibly bright, almost too bright to use outdoors at night (it ruins your night vision). But I wish it were more like a Maglite in a number of ways. For one thing, the on/off button is inconveniently on the back end of the device, and you can't just depress the button to shine a beam momentarily. You have to click on, then click off. Also, the initial click turns on a blindingly bright high beam. To get to the "low" beam you have to cycle through two more off, then on again click sequences. Then, if you have the light off for more than 20 seconds, you'll have to cycle again the same way to get back to the desired low-beam setting once more. It would be great if you could just momentarily flash the beam without having to click on/off, and if you could pick the desired "on" beam intensity from the three possible brightness levels without the endless cycling. With the Maglite and a twist of the flashlight head, I could get an almost parallel beam that could be focused at variable distances to spotlight an object. With the S2500 Gearlight, the zoom goes from a very broad beam to a much narrower but still expanding beam. My main use of a flashlight is to wander my 3/4 acre yard when the sprinkler system is running at night and ensure none of the rotor heads are caught up on any grass runners or other yard debris and not blast the neighbors' bedroom windows with a very bright light. I decided to put single-use Lithium AA batteries in my Gearlight to avoid the alkaline battery leaks that have plagued my Maglite (and why I purchased a Gearlight). If you leave the Gearlight full-on for any length of time, the metal shell, especially around the lens, gets very warm. Fortunately, my usage requires only momentary use of the beam. Otherwise, I would think the device would eat its way through batteries rapidly (I haven't owned the S2500 long enough to tell. I will update my battery endurance experience after a summer of use). In short, the Gearlight is a very high-quality flashlight with some annoying idiosyncrasies. The brightness of its highest beam is amazing but causes serious eye strain if you look at anything nearby with it with your pupils fully dilated from night darkness. If you could focus the beam more, you wouldn't need such a bright light and could conserve battery power more. An ability to set the default ON setting to "low beam" would help my use case for the Gearlight. But it's a great little flashlight, and when I want to turn night into day, I have that ability in a very compact, well-made form factor.

Excellent light, it is as bright as advertised and then some!!!
I am always skeptical about lumens ratings. Especially when they claim 800 - 1000 lumens. If it's not a car battery spotlight with a head lamp on it, I always doubt the rating. Normally most lights are 350 lumens at best. So I never expect to much more. This flashlight is incredible! I bought the rechargeable battery for it. 8000 maH 3.7v. I live on a large property lot with a abandoned ranch behind me. Lots of wildlife have taken it back over. I went out at 9:00pm CST and tested the flashlight. This baby will penetrate the darkness. If you cone it done to spot light function, you can see 200 - 300 yards easy. The flood setting on it is just flat amazing. You open this up to flood and it will light up the field like noon time on a sunny day. I am not being generous, this light is everything the seller says it is. I can see why it's got 1,000 plus positive reviews. It has super bright setting, medium bright setting, low power setting, strobe setting and SOS setting. The only thing I don't like about all of these lights is one minor thing and it's consistent across the industry. You have to push the tail cap each time you want to change settings. I wish there was a way to go from any setting back to super bright with one like sustained push of the tail cap. Other than that, this is a great flashlight and will provide illumination to any situation. I tried the Duracell batteries that can be alternated into power chamber with the little battery holder for AAA batteries. With new batteries I did not notice any loss of brilliance between li-ion rechargeable and Duracell. I bought two of the 26650 Li-ion flat top batteries off of Amazon and they fit and work very well. If you are going to use it for 30 mins to an hour of sustained run time, I would suggest the medium or low power settings. The light emitting end will get hot at the high power setting after about 15 minutes. It has a warning, "HOT" on that end. You have to have some heat if you are going to have this bright of a light. I have not used the customer service department yet, but judging from the people who have had to, I do not expect any problems. After all, they build a great product and did not lie about the brilliance of the light. I am not sure of the lumens, but I have an AR-15 rail light that is 650 lumens for sure. I know this for a fact and this flashlight is brighter than that rail light. I would think it is up there in the 800 range. One other thing, this is not a skinny little pocket light, It is a well made, aluminum casing hand held flashlight. It is not so large in diameter you can't easily hold it in one had and flip the tail cap on and off. It is a little heavier than most, but that allows for a good size battery that will provide all the power you need. I would of uploaded picture, however the Amazon link would not work for me. Not sure why, it always did before. This light will work for you though, you will not waste your money on this flashlight. Well made and bright!!!

Dimmest light in it’s class.
Edit: I got to say with this light lacked in a brightness made up and Customer Service. They sent me a new light I didn’t even ask for it and it definitely was brighter , and smoother and more even. I could tell that the LED array was different. So you still need to make sure you get the right one I think if the light looks like the one in the photo are you might wanna tell them to send you a newer one. But one things for sure, if you’re looking for a company that will stand by their product instead of someone with no address or Internet presence and impossible to get a hold of, Gearlight will take care of you. So kudos to them and I look forward to trying out their future products. was anxious to get this light and try it out. It seems to have decent build quality and the focusing ring is smooth. It also has a AA battery adapter so you get the choice between using an 18650 cell or three AAs. Three AA should give you a nominal voltage of 4.5 V as compared to 3.7 V with the 18650. In theory you should get a little bit more brightness out of the AAs. The other thing that I find curious is that the manufacturer doesn’t mention what kind of LED array is being used for the lamp. In my experience this is not a good sign as flashlights that use the Cree arrays are usually pretty proud of that fact, particularly the XHP series. I’m not a fan of the tail cap switch but it’s not a dealbreaker. This one has one but it feels like it’s decent quality. My basic problem is that it’s just not very bright. I don’t wanna mention names because it seems like my reviews get kicked back whenever I mention other brands so let’s just say I’ve comparing this light to one of similar price, between 10 and $20. And it uses a Cree XHP50. You can see by the photo where I have focused them at about the same size circle, and the one on the left that is the Cress is significantly brighter than the Gearlight. The wider you go, the bigger and more noticeable the difference. And remember the Gearlight is getting .8 V more juice to the diode. The light also has a little bit more of a yellow cast to it with a strong yellow fringe around the edge. However before you get to the edge the light circle is fairly evenly lit. That shows it does have a decent focusing lens and reflector. The XHP 50 wall considerably brighter it does show a more uneven lighting pattern. One cool thing about these LED flashlights that focus is that when you bring the beam down to its most narrow focus you’re essentially projecting an image of the actual LED array onto whatever you’re shining light on. So if you shine it on a flat white surface you get a decent image of the actual LED array. Or you can see the two comparisons that I’ve tried to keep the doorway about the same size so the Cree has its typical quad array which it has been using for sometime. The gear A has these narrow strips and essentially a zigzag pattern. I’ve seen these arrays before but in much older lamps. And if you use the size of the doorway to compare you can see the Cree is actually much bigger. There obviously a lot of people very happy with this light and my guess is they don’t have a lot of experience with high output compact flashlights. I do and this one is just too dim for me. Especially considering all of the varied low cost options out there.

Is This the Most Perfect Light Ever Made? I Think Maybe It Is
I bought this for travel, as many of my trips take me to the woods or to jungles where being sure I have light is a big deal. I also like to find owls and other night animals and was looking for a light that could also do that. This thing is AMAZING! As a general purpose light, it is easy to use, compact enough to pack easily (for me anyway), and has plenty of lumens to see anything. As a spotlight, it has the power of a thousand suns! Of course I am exaggerating, but I bet there are at least a few blind owls in the forest because they dared look directly at the beam. (Side Note: Please PM me if you see any owls with white canes.) I have used a few different spot lights over the years, and this beats all of them when considering brightness, compactness, beam narrowing, and weight. I darn near got bit by a puff adder in Africa this past year, and the light allowed me to get a great picture of the snake in the blackest night (after I got away from it of course). I was recently in Ghana with a nature guide who has seen many, many spotlights brought with his clients. He LOVED this light; He kept talking about it, so I left it with him to keep. You would have thought I gave him a half-million dollars...his face absolutely lit up (pun intended) with joy. When I got home, I bought another for myself. If there was a negative, it would be that it requires 4AA batteries to use. That said, a set of batteries seems to last a long time with this unit. Personally, I don't mind carrying a few extra batteries to have the capability that this unit gives me. Buy this light if any of the things above apply to you, it is one of the best things I have bought for travel.

Take them at their word in their headline above starting with "Powerful.....
I cannot rate battery life as I haven't used it long enough but would assume if you know you would be using it for any prolonged time, use the least brightness level that you need at the time. I enjoy the larger feel of this flashlight (due to the 6 AA cells inside)- it is not really small but comfortable to hold and carry. It has a very bright zoom-able beam. It employs a square LED light source (make not given). At zero zoom the flashlight projects a larger bright square image on a wall 20ft away. Moving away, the image grows larger with distance and so at say 150 ft (not exact) it will nicely illuminate the whole side of a 2 story house. So if you are looking for what everyone calls a "torch" this may not be what you want; but it is not advertised as one but throws a lot of light. The variable beam expands as a circle not a square. The beam opens up to a circle as you zoom out with inherent dimming as the angle increases and light is spread over a larger area. At the widest setting my entire garage is filled with light and would probably do well in a warehouse situation or on the trail where you needed to see more around you but still have the punch to zoom in to a narrower beam for distance. So if you are looking for a rugged, very bright, no frills flashlight that will keep you out of the dark wherever you are, this is a great buy for the price. It doesn't do SOS or rapid blinking, but has 3 brightness settings. I am very happy with this purchase and recommend it if you are looking for a bright, zoom-able flashlight at a good price.

It's bright like your future
I have bought dozens of flashlights that claim to be bright and have finally found one. I am a 65 year old women who lives alone so if it has to be done after dark (bringing the trash bins up from the street), I am the one that does it. This flashlight illuminates the whole yard. IMO, this is the best flashlight ever.

Bright Idea & Worth the money
I'm shocked that this runs on 4 / AA batteries and is so incredibly bright. It's heavy for it's size, which keeps it upright and prevents tipping over. It fits in the car's console and or easily in a nightstand drawer. It has an adjustable aperture to narrow or widen the light beam (useful when communicating with UFOs). I take it with me at night to throw out the trash, and I use it to temporarily blind the skunk that lives in my yard, so he can't see where am in case he wants to spray me, because I know he does. I am going to buy more for my children to have in their homes.
