does he come with the tony's couch?

No, the one I purchased for my husband did NOT come with the couch. Apparently, Tamashii Nations announced Tony's Sofa as a first production run bonus for early customers, but it is no longer included with the current retail package. Plus, it comes with 4 pairs of interchangeable hands (starting with the 2 fists already attached & 6 additional hands contained in the packaging with the effects parts). The plastic packaging's dimensions are 6" W x 7-1/16" H x 1-5/8" D (there is no room for the bonus sofa in this package). It looks like Nando was one of the lucky few who got the first-run bonus, but the current stock does NOT include the couch. Sorry.

how durable? can my son play around w this or is this more of a collector's item that belongs on a shelf?

The figure is a collectors item. With that said, I bought it for my son to play with. It is posable, strong,durable and able to be repositioned in countless positions. It still looks brand new, incredible attention to detail beyond any store bought action figure. Based on child's age you may want to plaice tiny extra parts in a baggie. Definitely worth the money.
