Yes. Put bees in jar with powered sugar. Shake with screen on jar onto white paper or cardboard. Count mites and determine if need treated.

Q: Does it kill the bees?

Yes, the bee's, (200 to 300) depending on the size sample used, will be killed if using 99% alcohol as recommend. I suggest reading about it and other options.

Q: Where can you get the CO2 cartridge/spray device? What is it called?

I use traditional alcohol. The CO2 method seems expensive.
