and as stupid as that sounds
As a pediatrician and a parent, this is is an invaluable book for managing kids , especially kids with ADHD. The whole beginning is about loving your kid, and as stupid as that sounds, that is what is the most important. Think to yourself, "Would I ever speak to a colleague at work this way?" It really helps you approach your kids in a much healthier fashion.

I love the Incredible Years!
I took a class for this parenting style when my kids were babies. We still use a lot of the info in here, like creating times for positive bonding. I actually bought this for 2 friends, one who just had a baby and another with a preteen that could use some of the influence this book offers. I would recommend this book to every parent!

Not the same as group guidelines.
It’s well written, great information. However, I had bought it specifically to follow with a incredible years parent management group my hospital was during and it didn’t correlate well with that.

Parenting book based on research, not writer antidotes
There are tons of parenting, but few that have research evidence that they work. Don't waste your money to get bad advice in other books. This is an exceptional book.

Excellent parenting book. One of the best I have read.
As a therapist I see many parents who are at their wits end in dealing with their child. This book has been very enouraging to them and is a source of fresh ideas for me. The chapters are broken down into shorter sections to make it a quick and easy read for the busy parent. I highly recommend this book for all parents dealing with this age level.

Excellent advice, easy to dip and out of
I've found this book really helpful with our toddler. The advice is excellent, evidence based and really works. For example we have used ignoring or withdrawing attention (as recommended in the book) to manage lots of the behaviour that was tricky and it works really well. Its great that the book takes you through different ages, and tells you what your child can and cannot understand at different ages - e.g. there's no point using discipline in a way that your child can't understand because they're too young or not developmentally ready. I've given copies to friends and regularly recommend it.

A must have for parents
This book will change the way you are with your child forever! So much insight into child development and suggestions on how to cope with challenging behaviour, it just makes life as a parent more fun and easier to deal with. Since reading The Incredible Years I am a calmer, better parent and my little boy's challenging behaviour has improved so much. I understand more about how he thinks, how he sees the world and interacts with it. There is less shouting and more listening and cooperation in our house these days, I thoroughly recommend reading this book!
