A good introduction to Dan Kennedy but not so good if you want to prepare a marketing plan
This is a book that has given me mixed feelings so let me explain why.*** What I don't like about The Ultimate Marketing Plan ***Rant 1 - the use of the word "ultimate" makes me mad. Regular edition updates prove it wasn't the ultimate.Rant 2 - Dan Kennedy takes you through many different topics - and it makes great reading - but I didn't feel that I was reading a book about preparing a marketing plan. There is a form at the back which tries to pull the topics together to create a marketing plan with a worked example - but it didn't work.Rant 3 - Dan Kennedy is a direct response marketer and you have a regular call to action to join his marketing group. Some will be put off by the blatant commercialism of the book.Rant 4 - the book constantly refers to a website with extra resources to give you more details. A great idea but it builds up the promise and expectation. The stuff wasn't there when I checked.*** What I like about The Ultimate Marketing Plan ***Dan Kennedy is famous for his no BS approach and apart from the nonsense above, that's exactly what he delivers. It's well written, very informative and interesting. There are plenty of examples to show you the direct marketing approach and the emphasis on message, market and media. The book is packed with common sense and I've made plenty of notes. My four star rating means this is a recommended book to read. It is not recommended for someone who wants to know how to write a marketing plan. There are better, more structured books and guides for that - both for internal focus and action and external review.I can recommend it for anyone who wants to learn more about the legendary Dan Kennedy and his ideas or for someone who wants to use direct response marketing in a business. The Ultimate Sales Letter also by Dan Kennedy is focused on the copywriting elements of the marketing message and the two books will work very well together.About my book reviews - My goal is to help you to find the best business advice. I aim to be a tough reviewer because the main cost of a book is not the money to buy it but the time needed to read it and absorb the key messages. 4 stars means this is a good to very good book.Paul Simister, a business coach who helps business owners who feel stuck, get unstuck.

It's a great book but subject maybe misleading
... and it will be misleading for those, who are acutally not interested to build the business, but for those who are interested to create any of those 500 pages fancy looking books called "Mu Great Inc Marketing Plan, now Mr. Investor give me money".If you want create somewhat like this - this book is NOT for you, then choose a Harvard Press or Sunday Times copy/paste academic style writings to be purchased in airport or local bookstores. But if you want:- Unique ideas, how to promote you business in every field you are, sometimes with small and or no money - this is book for you- If you want great examples, advices, and insights with a professional marketing specialist as Mr. Kennedy is - this book is for you.- Examples, strategies, ideas & beyond. One more time - this is NOT a book how to write a marketing plan.Kennedy is right there - if you can not earn money without the money, you probably will not either, if someone will give you investment. This is for those, who wrote 2 star reviews there. Those are ideas coming directly from marketing battlefield, a must have book for any business owner or marketer

Just For Beginners
If you are into marketing at all - especially online marketing - you know about Dan Kennedy. And you either love him or hate him. I actually love his approach and strategies because at the end of the day - they work. So when I read this book I was wondering how informative it would be. I probably should have read this book when I was starting my business because while it is pretty comprehensive etc. it is written primarily for the beginning marketer. So if you are starting your business - I recommend that you pick this book up and introduce yourself to Dan's philosophy and proven strategies for marketing your business. It's worth the read.

Few Books Are As Useful
I hate lending this book out. I'm always referencing back to it, snatching ideas. As I've said in other reviews, I am biased to Dan's stuff. But this book really makes a case for that bias. It is packed with thick, juicy meat for any business owner. The marketing plan guide at the end is among the best I've read, and easiest to implement. If you understand and implement just a few ideas Dan tosses at you... you're business is going to explode.Sure, the title sucks. As I recall, he didn't even want to name it this way. The publisher was just unwilling to accept the original (which I can't recall). But don't it turn you away.He touches on EVERYTHING in this book that creates a marketing image, persona, and approach. From your customer service, to your product, to your media and message.I've paid more money for books that have helped me less.

Ultimate it is not
I am in the planning stages of a new business venture. I have never written a marketing plan before and needed some insight and advice as to what tactics work and how to write the plan itself. This book reads like a list of useful one-liner marketing tips and examples of how the author's friends have used them. It is not a how to book on writing a marketing plan, and it does not go into much depth as far as how you might accomplish the things that he recommends. The most annoying part of this book is that every other page contains an advertisement for you to join some 12-week commitment mailing list that the author has created. He entices you by saying that you will receive additional tips and information for 12 weeks.HELLO!!! McFLY!!! Didn't I just buy your book so that I could learn your marketing insights? YES! So then why do you make it seem like I just paid for the teaser information, and that the good stuff is behind the curtain that requires me to become a pawn in your marketing career? My price of admission stops at the price of this book, and it should not seem like I'm only getting half of the story that I paid for!
