Can the dip section come off easily to have more space to do pull-ups?

The "arms" are on quick release "pins" so they fold down out of the way. They do not remove but drop out of the way nicely. I honestly never even fold mine down and have plenty of room for pull ups.

What (if anything) do I need from the hardware store that will make the installation easier? A certain socket wrench, perhaps?

Nothing. It comes with all tools that are needed.

Can you use this outside?

I have mine outside, but under a Covered Patio. If you are talking outside with no cover, i would imagine it might start to eventually rust a bit, especially the bolts (but i do not know that for sure) ... and the Pads/Grips might deteriorate with exposure to the sun, but it would work. For the price, i love the unit and use it every day (outside).

Can you hang from the pull up bar with gravity boots
