Catherine Cookson at her best
This is Catherine Cookson at its best. Tilly is a 15 year old orphan at the beginning of the story. She is living with her grandparents and in love with her farmer neighbour yet unaware of the secret that binds him to her family. But as Tilly begins her journey of self awareness, she comes up against prejudice, fear and lust but as she battles against all those who wish her and her family harm, disaster and the poverty she was born into. she draws on her inner strength to rise against it all time and time again... even catching the eye of the Lord of the Manor.Tilly is a hero of her time who you will want to root for.

A great series of books.
The Tilly Trotter Trilogy is another of Catherine Cookson's writing at her best. It is a wonderful insight into how to deal with suffering and even when you have it bad in your life. To go on. There is always another corner to turn with another story in your life with a different outcome for you. How sometimes we are not always able to cope but a person or persons can come into our lives and change it for the better. It's a book that you can relate to on so many different levels.I would highly recommend this Trilogy.

Disappointing
This book was described as in good condition, but I have had better quality from other sellers . The dust over was so poor I threw it away . Best described as fair would be more accurate.

I could not put this book down, you get drawn into the main character and those around her
I read this book after I had watched the drama of it, book was better and I found it hard to put down. It is easy to read and the characters are well written and really draw you into their world. It made me feel very lucky and humble to be living in this day and age!

TILLY TROTTER, CATHERINE COOKSON
Catherine Cookson is not for the faint of heart. This is not one of the gory, bloody thrillers you find in the best seller rack at the local store, but some of the finest historical literature that I have read. You will find raw 1840 England, along with coal mines with the filth and coal dust clogging your throat. You will find what the upper class call crawlers, Gentry who is diabolical, lusty and heartless, but most important, you might see that whether mankind is rich or poor, when it comes to love and hate, are we naught the same?

Tilly Trotter Trilogy
Started reading her first book on Tilly Trotter and got hooked !!!! I have just finished the third of the series and all three books were just so good. I was just sorry when I had finished the last book.I thought the 'flow on' from one book to the next was very good indeed and as always with Catherine Cookson books the descriptive passages are excellent. Each book was so different in it's own way, and that just added to the excitement of wanting to get started on to the next book. I would recommend these books to any age group. Must add that Catherine Cookson I got these books for my wife as she is an avid reader of her books and has most of them in hardback editions. She now has taken over my kindle !!!!!!

Catherine Cookson has done it again!
I have only read around 100 pages of this novel so far and just like always nobody can tell a story like Catherine Cookson. I have eased into the story effortlessly. I am giving accolades to bad people in this novel and I am cursing the bad ones. Trust me this novel makes you curse a lot! This extremely large( over six hundred pages) book is to be my summer read. The novel is so good so far, I do not think it will take that much time at all.

Fun reading
If you're into this kind of thing, Cookson is a gifted writer and I enjoyed reading the whole Tilly trilogy. Tilly is such a corker!

Tilly Trotter Trilogy is Good Read
The characters are well developed & the setting is interesting. As usual, Cookson knows about England, its classes and languages. She writes in a way that makes the reader care about the protagonists and her imagery is delightful. Tilly is a character that one can't help but love and the way she withstands the prejudices and harsh judgments of the townspeople is inspiring. This book gives a good description of what it must have been like to work in the mines. It also makes clear that as long as people spread rumors, are prejudicial, and lack empathy our society will be sadly affected.

I enjoyed this series...
I was interested in these books after watching a BBC miniseries on the novel on my Netflix account. It was a very good story and I was interested in knowing what happens to Tilly after the first book so I began looking for the trilogy. I greatly enjoy all of Cookson's novels. I think they are well written with powerful female protagonists. They have the drama and romance. These are like grittier versions of Jane Austen. I love Jane Austen too, but sometimes her world is so pristine and the in Cookson's novels the work is depicted as exactly what it was, sometimes life is harsh and you have to go out and make a path for yourself and sometimes love is not easy. Hope you enjoy these books as much as I have...

Highly recommended
Excellent. Love this book! Never a dull moment. Great characters, the story of good vs evil, the value of living a really moral, good , kind life. Not without life's tragic events or lessons.

Great reading, hard to put down
Exciting and on edge of seat in this one- . Not a feel good book, except in a few places, but keeps interest! All her books are alive with real characters- you can see them, almost smell them, they are that vivid…

Excellent!!
This is the first book in the trilogy. Catherine Cookson always has strong women characters in her book and I think that is because she seems to be that way herself. I loved all three of these books and will read more of hers when I have the time.

Very engaging, can't put it down!
This is my first time reading the Tilly Trotter trilogy and book 1 is great, the story has kept me engaged all the way to the end and I just purchased the second book in the trilogy and I'm sure it will be just as good. I highly recommend these books. Catherine Cookson is an awesome writer....

Pretty good...but
I've enjoyed Catherine Cookson for years and this trilogy was very much in her previous style. Perhaps it was a mistake to read one book after another - the recurring themes of overwhelming love and tragedy got a bit old.
