The real land of fire and ice
I used this compact guide as a supplement to a four nights’ package holiday in the Reykjavik area of south-west Iceland, where four of the recommended “top 10 highlights” are located and lived up to expectations, namely: Þingvellir National Park (anglicised to Thingvellir) and the site of the original 36 chieftains’ annual national assembly; the Geysir Hot Springs including Strokkur, Iceland’s equivalent of Old Faithful; the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall where it is possible to get terrifyingly close to the thundering water and spray; Blue Lagoon with its warm continually replenished geothermal waters, cloudy with supposedly health-giving chemicals and good for floatingAs is typical of Eyewitness Guides, it is beautifully presented with plenty of photographs giving an accurate impression of the country, useful maps (including one fold-out map of the whole island and a handy laminated pull-out map) and concise, relevant information. It is set out very clearly, by both area and comprehensive range of topics and would be helpful for a longer self-organised tour of say, 7-10 days.Apart from emphasising that everyone working in the service sector seems to speak good English (at least in Reykjavik where there also seems to be a good deal of migrant labour) with credit cards readily accepted, an omission is the failure to mention the at times mind-boggling prices for British tourists, with items often costing two, even three times more than they would in the UK. Admittedly I changed my pounds into króna at possibly the worst possible time just after Brexit. It was ironical that we were able to explore free of charge the fascinating (if possible white elephant folly) Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre, baled out for completion with government money after the financial crisis of 2008, but decided not to pay the equivalent of more than £12 each for a 15 minute video shown there about Iceland.

... day trip to Iceland but it wasn't all that useful to me in the format it's written
I bought this as a travel guide for a ten day trip to Iceland but it wasn't all that useful to me in the format it's written. The top ten things in each category tend to be spread out over quite large distances. When I'm in one area, I tend to want to know about the things in that area not across the whole country. It means that if you want to plan what you're going to do in a location that you need to flick between pages quite a lot. There wasn't enough detailed information about the entries for my liking either. I ended up feeling frustrated and wishing I'd bought another book.

Actually quite useful to have an idea beforehand.
I used this guide for my ten day road trip in Iceland. There was a lot of useful information in this little book and also some other things that we did not need to know. We went all around the island and while in the east fjords, the book had some good recommendation for that really isolated small town where we spent the night and the place was actually awesome. We used this and a route map for the whole island and I would say it covers the main interesting things you could visit so it is worth to have it if you want to taste more from the icelandic culture, the good thing is that shows you options according to your budget, from cheap to expensive places so you can have an idea beforehand.

Who needs WIFI !
This Top 10 series never disappoints. Our collection is now rather large. More convenient than fiddling with a phone, iPad or any other electronic device in the rain. Map and text can be studied simultaneously! All aspects of any trip are clear and concise.
