Hohner 6 Piece Rhythm Instrument Set

What came looked like a knock off. Now that we received a replacement it seems that they are just inconsistent about the products they make and package. Please note most of the items they send do not match the photo in the product listing or the package they come in! The tambourine was bright primary colors, The triangle strike does not have a rubber grip just a loop and, the mallet for the Sounder is not red, but green like the others, and the wrist bell is red not blue. Also, when we received a replacement it did not come with any of the sing and play activity cards.Inconsistent quality and items not as pictured and the symbols have little extra rings on them and the knob and construction does not look as nice as that shown on Amazon.

I got these instruments for my daughter because she's developing quite an interest in music. If I had to do it again, I'd probably pick a different set or compile my own. They're good, but they're not great.The bells are great and we love them.The cymbals do not have that great of a tone. I'm probably going to get a pair of finger cymbals, so we have something with a better tone. You can get a bunch of sounds from them, depending on whether you strike them together or use the mallets on different areas... but none of them are really what I would call pleasing sounds.The soprano sounder is kinda like a wood block. My daughter ignores it completely.The rhythm sticks are pretty fun -- one with ridges, one smooth. You can scrape them, bang them, carry them around and poke the cat... Yeah, those are a success.The triangle has a good tone to it. The metal stick for hitting it went straight into my daughter's mouth, so we're waiting till she's a little older to bring it back out.The tambourine is good; although there are better ones out there, there are also worse ones. It'll certainly suffice.The music activity sheets that came with the collection were... kind of lacking. They had lyrics for old familiar kids' songs, but no info on the melodies, so I hope you already know the tunes. And the "activity" for all of the songs? Beat the instrument in rhythm to the song. Gee, I don't think I could have figured that one out for myself. Thanks so much, activity sheets!My daughter is only 15 months old, so I'm sure her use of these will evolve as she grows up. Overall, I'm glad I got them and I won't be returning them, but if I could do it again, I'd probably assemble my own collection piece by piece.

My son is 27 months and a fan of the show Calliou. One episode shows a marching band, and ever since watching it my son has been obsessed with having his own "marching band". This past weekend I told him that if he could learn to use the potty, I would buy him a marching band. He was staying dry in 3 days and is completely day trained a week later, naps and all. This toy sealed the deal. It even says "Marching Band" right on the box!I was a little worried about these instruments being large enough and sturdy enough because there are some not so nice reviews about size and durability. Turns out they are perfect. My son was so thrilled with them when he opened them today that it was like Christmas morning.I was a little concerned that he would want a drum, but it turns out that he can use the drum sticks on the tambourine, so it's perfect. They look like real instruments and have good sound for toys. I bought him a $3 kazoo at a local store and he is all set. Perfect for the musical toddler!

I don't understand how this product has such great reviews. Tight in the center of the tamborine it says Hohner and "China", the little wooden instrument is not properly sanded and finished. It just looks plain cheap, items are plastic and wood seems to be cheaply painted. Now I am growing suspicious about going based on Amazon reviews, which sucks since reviews are one of the main reason why I favor buying in Amazon. I am returning it. not worth the over $30 I paid for this set.

I bought this for my 18 mo old daughter so she would have some instruments at home to play with. She attends Music Together classes, and these are great for home use. I think it is great that they label this a 6-piece, which refers to the 6 different instruments as opposed to six pieces of things in the set. It is definitely worth the money. The set came with a cotton drawstring bag for storage, and 6 different one-page brochures, which had suggested songs/chants to try with each instrument classified by age range, and also lists the educational purpose for each class. The age range is over 3 years, but I think you can still use it with supervision for younger kids.The set contains the following:3 wood mallets (two for the cymbals, one for the wood block)1 soprano wood block1 triangle and 1 striker2 cymbals1 tambourine2 rhythm sticks (one ridged and one smooth)1 wrist bellsI like pretty much all the parts, except for the soprano wood block. It sucks and seems to be the only cheaply made item in the set. It is made of wood and has a heavy coating of varnish. It doesn't sound that great either.The wood mallets are small, and made of two pieces. The end seems to be glued pretty well to the stick, so I make sure to supervise during use in case the end comes off, as that can be a choking hazard.There is a ridged rhythm stick and a smooth one, made of wood and painted. The smooth stick was slightly warped, but still works alright. You scrape them together or tap them. We use these in the Music Together classes too.There are two 5" cymbals, the handles are made of wood and the cymbal part is a thick metal. They are not curved much so the sound doesn't carry well, but they work well enough for a young child. The edges are thick enough not to cause injury. Still, you must be cautious as stepping on the edge or tripping over them is still quite painful. My daughter likes to bang them together and then hold them on the sides of her face. I tried this too, and it sounds interesting.The triangle is nice. It is metal and has a tiny little string to hold it up. The striker is also metal and has a plastic rubbery cap on one end. It is quite small and a choking hazard, so I don't let my kid use it at all. There are three wood mallets in the set, and those work fine as a striker. The sound carries very nicely.There is also a tambourine. It is made of plastic that looks like wood. The top part is a plastic sheeting, but seems strong enough so far. My daughter sometimes stands on it and it's still intact. The coins on the sides are a shiny metal and sound tinny.There is only one wrist bells. These sound great. They are like the kind of medium jingle bells you see at Xmas and are attached to a nylon strap that has a rivet on it. You can put it on your wrist, however it is not adjustable. It is very loud but cheerful sounding.Overall these are great. Some of the instruments are similar to ones used in the Music Together classes. I have stored them in a covered plastic container and everyday my daughter brings the container to me to open it. She seems to enjoy them a lot.I highly recommend these over some cheap junky set like one from Simba. I think the quality is even better than the Band in a Bucket, which I also have. These are definitely going to last a long time.
