Dog Diary: 04 (Very First Reading)

Good : very attractive appearance, fun to read together. Bad : Story is very simple for 6 year kids and there are no new words to learn.

My 4 year old likes the puzzles at the back which are about her level but she doesn't know the less common variant words (for the sake of introducing letters and sounds?) for words she would have known, such as yap instead of bark, fizz (pop or soda, fizzy drink?) and nip (bite). Maybe they're more commonly used in the UK. I also found the illustrations flat (literally too 2-dimensional) and confusing to find the subject quickly from the background to know what's going on, eg when the dog is on the bus (pp 16-17).
