Accept the fact that Pilot doesn't make an alternate ink pump add-on to fill our own inks in this pen. If you decide to fill the entire barrel with ink (without ink cartridge), then remember to ALWAYS keep the pen in an upright position. While practising, remember that the pilot inks are quite strong and leaves mark on the other side of the paper also. If you use glossy coated paper while doing Calligraphy, wait for a few minutes for the ink to dry. By default, Pilot Parallel Pen gives a nice, generous ink flow to the nib.

It's an amazing pen for beginners to master the art of calligraphy. It can also be used by dipping in ink. Cartridge can also be refilled, I use rotering ink(ref. image) to refill the cartridge and have done this process numerous times. I also tried blending technique using poster colours (as in the image) just to experiment and it works too. It comes with two cartridges blue and red and also with a manual, nib cleaner, and a pipette.
