Can cat still catch rodents?

Short answer, YES! My cat routinely catches chipmunks and bunnies. Even squirrels can sometimes fall prey to her. Even with the collar on. But virtually no birds! 🙏🏼

Has anyone tried using different colors and found one to be the most effective in scarring away birds?

The colors don't scare the birds away, the cat does. My cat is pitch black and nearly invisible. The colors of the Birdsbesafe Cat Color Cover make him stand out and birds will notice him.

Would this collar keep a cat from getting baby cottontails?

This collar is really something when it comes to birds. Only 2 in 8 months. My baby rabbits .... there were 3 & he got 1. I say it is worth a try, I actually attributed the other 2 making it because of the collar. My cat never messes with the adult rabbits. Hope that helps.
