Dog Mate Electromagnetic Small Dog/Large Cat Flap Door - 259W

I purchased these for my two large indoor/outdoor cats back in 2010. I didn't install them until early 2011. I already had a pet door set up in my garage entryway but I didn't like leaving my garage door cracked open allowing other neighborhood cats to come into my house and eat their food.Once I installed this in the wall in my garage leading to the side of my house, my cats had the freedom to come and go as they pleased. Since they were use to the other door, it took them less than a day to get used to the new door. I had to tape a small weight to the door to ensure it would close all the way after they entered. The collar magnets that come with the door are sized for dogs so they looked bulky on my cats. They do sell a smaller collar magnet but my cats did well with them. By the way, the door kept the other animals out.Sadly, both cats have since passed due to illnesses that come with old age. Everyday I look at the pet door and it reminds me of how happy they both were being able to come and go as they pleased. It will be used again when we finally decide to get a new kitten.Great memories....

I ordered this dog door so that our little dog could go out but I didn't want the cats to go out. Its also hard for my 83 yr old mother to have to jump up to let the little dog out when I'm at work.When it came I found that the box was torn on the ends as though it had been opened before. I thought oh well maybe it had been checked or something.Once I took it out of the package I noticed the clear door was scrached as though it had been used already. I figured it was not that bad and as it gets used its bound to get scrached a little anyway.I paid 75.00 to have the door installed by a carpenter. (so I have invested 145.00 to purchase the door and have it installed) The carpenter was as baffied as I was as to why the door would not work properly.I tried to call the phone number on the paper work that came with it and a recorded message said they were only open Monday- Friday, since this was Saturday The guy that installed it left and I decided to call on Monday. I called all day long and the phone rang and rang until it would finally go to a busy signal. No recorded message this time.This door claims it has 4 way locking ( locked, out only, in only and unlocked) the only position which works is locked and unlocked. the catch doesn't catch for the, In Only and Out Only settings. I did put a brand new 9v battery in it so this is not the problem.It seems to me that this must have been returned to the seller by someone else and they just passed it on to me. If I knew how this company did business I would not have purchased their product! I will continue to try to contact the seller to get satisfaction and if They make it good will rewrite this review to reflect that, but be aware before you buy....Up date 8-9-2013 Did finally reach this company which said I could return it and if they found it to be faulty then they would consider a refund. They would not pay for return shipping and I hired someone to put it in at a cost of 75.00 dollars, so the thought of having him come back and take it out plus fill the hole in temp. until the company made it decision was very upsetting. I in the end decided to just keep it and leave it unlocked. I would not buy this product or buy from this company again and wrote this hoping to save someone else from my experience.

At first this door worked great! My dog got the hang of it very quickly and it was not to big of a problem to install! However within a few months it stopped working, which it shouldn't have because it had a brand new battery. Sometimes the locks get stuck or don't work properly. So now every time my pup goes outside i am forced to listen for her scratching so i can open the door for her to re-enter. Not to mention when it was installed in my wall, the battery is placed inside of this door, so if i replaced the battery i would have to re-cut my wall just to get the door out then go through the trouble of rebuilding it again.

We have a small dog and a cat, so we bought this with the dog magnets included and then splashed out for extra cat magnets as well. After a bit of scrabbling at the flap and whining the dog worked out pretty quickly that his head has to be low for the magnet to work and he is now going in and out with ease. The cat on the other hand could not get the hang of it since the flap would only unlock when her head was over the step part outside the flap and then would immediately lock again before she could get her head to the flap. Finally I took the cat magnet off her and gave her the spare dog magnet, and now the flap stays open long enough for her to actually get through it. She still has problems because she only has one front leg and she keeps trying to use the nonexistent leg to push the flap while she stands on the other leg, but that's hardly the flap's fault. The dog magnet looks very big on her but she doesn't seem to even notice it, so I don't think the weight is an issue and the power of the cat magnet is simply insufficient. All in all, a pretty good product once your pet gets the idea and as long as you don't bother with the cat magnet. It's certainly nice to know that the neighborhood cat who was coming in through our previous non-magnetic cat flap and spraying all over the furniture won't be able to get in any more - as long as the flap shuts properly every time, which is another issue. The dog barges through givinng the flap enough momentum to close after him, whereas the cat slinks through and quite often the flap stays half open. A weight on the bottom of the flap will probably sort this, and I'll put one on once the cat is completely comfortable with the flap as is.

I bought this based on reviews from this site and others. We have two dachshunds. It works fine for the smaller one, but the larger one can't get in position because the magnet hangs too close to his chest and his nose is a bit too long. If his legs were two inches longer and his nose three inches shorter... well you get the idea. Not such a great door for dachshunds. I did manage to get it to work with a large and expensive rare earth magnet but thought that might be bad for the dog so the tabs are taped so it will always swing open both ways.

One magentic doesn't work and the door only works intermittently with the second. Would not recommend this product. No really help from the supplies when we e-mailed them just given a telephone number to ring the manufacturer. The after service from this supplier is shocking after contacting the manufacturer who could not resolve the fault the owner of animal kingdom e-mailed me back to say it sounded as if we needed a refund or a exchange. Which is great but we have to send the faulty door back second class leaving a hole in our back door until they resent a working door. Absolutely ridiculous!! Don't buy from this supplier once they have your money they don't want to know!!!

Das gelieferte Teil war vorher deutlich sichtbar schon einmal an jemand Anderes geliefert worden. So sah das dann auch aus. Der Einbau sollte aber in die Haustür erfolgen, hab mir dann woanders Ersatz besorgt.Auf den Rücksendeschein musste ich außerdem -2- Wochen warten.

Excellent service arrived ahead of promised date. Got one of these as I was getting tired of having to get up and let my two small pooches (Jackapoo's) out every ten minutes. In two days, they got the hang of it and were coming and going at their leisure. It's sturdy, attractive, and very functional. I'm not handy so I hired someone to install it. They charged me only £25.00 which was reasonable. I would recommend this DogMate Pet Door to anyone with small dogs and medium to large cats...

I had to return this product straight away. It does state that it is big enough for a large cat/small dog, and as the product is called Dogmate Dog door I ordered it for my minature Jack Russell. The product claims to suit dogs up to shoulder height of 14". My dog is only 10" at her shoulder and there was no way she would fit through this and its quite narrow too. The product is really good quality and would have been perfect for the job if the size was right. If your dog is bigger than a medium size cat I would avoid!
