RSD. On their enthralling new album Tassili, Tinariwen have set down their electric guitars & returned to the very essence of their art. Recorded in the South-ü]Eastern Algerian desert, the group returned to the roots of their music, with only acoustic guitars and unamplified percussion. For the first-time allowing outside musicians into their tight-ü]knit band, Tinariwen are joined by Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Maloneof the band TV on the Radio, guitarist Nels Cline (Wilco)and members of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band.

Wow recording and music, so clear, detailed, the notes just hang in space, deep but reverberant bass
CD Review: V2 2011Musically this is an outstanding album, the sound quality and recording is excellent being very up close and personal. A very clear recording which is evocative and sparse, the vocals and notes just seem to hang in space. The bass is deep but sparse. The vocals have unusual harmonies but are crystal clear. WOW music and recording.I have not set out to write reviews of the music content as “beauty is in the ears of the listener”. These reviews are about the quality (or not) of the recorded sound. To read about how the reviews are done please see my profile. • Clarity – very good • Channel separation – very good • Channel balance – very good • Sound Stage – broad, deep and detailed, gives a real sense of space and place • Distortion – non audible • Compression – very large frequency range and good volume variation • Atmosphere – very close and personal, evocative, detailed, intricate • Bass – low frequencies – deep, rich, crisp clear percussion, quite deep and reverberant • Treble – high frequencies – crisp clear, very clear and audible string note decay. Tones are almost unique and very clearly associated with each instrument and vocal tones • Vocals – outstanding, clear detailed, soulful, unique, fascinating harmoniesAs a general rule of thumb recordings from the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s are nearly always better on the original vinyl. Remasters often fail to please as it’s just not possible to make a silk purse from a sows ear, i.e. the original recording lacks the necessary detail to be processed digitally and show an audible improvement. Indeed such processing can make the sound worse.Modern recordings which have been processed digitally from start to finish can be as good as vinyl. CD’s are often unfairly criticised for being poor quality. This is not the case, it is the original recording or the process which is to blame. Modern “remasters” can both enhance and degrade a recording. The statement GIGO (Garbage In Garbage Out) is the limiting factor. Ignore this at your cost.

This band a re magic I had the good fortune of seeing them live last year in Cardigan Castle, with an audience before the gig with one of the members of the band who through a French translator told the story of how they have come together, an amazing introduction to them. Must see or hear the CD, it is brilliant.I need to speak to Amazon about the purchase of these CD's through my account as I paid and received more than I needed because of not being able to delete out of date debit cards their system holds and keeps defaulting to the old card? Not a happy customer on the purchasing side with Amazon!
