A Christmas Carol (Charles Dickens)

Not the Patrick Stewart version
I ordered this expecting the Patrick Stewart version of A Christmas Carol, which is really good. Unfortunately, what I received was a BBC version. Since I really wanted to watch some version of the story at Christmas time, I went ahead and kept it. The acting in this version is good, but it's old and the cinematography and film quality reflect that. It's also shorter than I would expect, less than 90 minutes I believe.

A "must have" version (in my opinion)
One of my favourite versions if this well known classic. Patrick Stewart plays a brilliant Scrooge, alongside Richard E. Grant as Bob Cratchit. Other well known names include Liz Smith, Saskia Reeves, Celia Imrie & Trevor Peacock.

A Christmas movie for any time of year.
Patrick Stewart is now my favorite Scrooge. This adaptation of A Christmas Carol is the best. Details previously overlooked in other versions fill out the story and make you want to watch it at any time of year. The cast is excellent, with Richard E. Grant marvelous as Bob Cratchit and Stewart brilliant as Ebenezer Scrooge. Beautifully filmed and directed, you lose yourself in the story and appreciate the happy ending more than ever before.

A Christmas Carol- Patrick Stewart
I love Christmas and have five versions of A Christmas Carol on DVD. I bought it originally just to "add to the collection" but it has quickly become my favourite, even bettering the Alastair Sim version itself a classic in its own right.Patrick Stewart makes a formidable Scrooge and manages to bring something new to a story which was in danger of becoming pure saccharin. There is a great interplay between him and Bob Cratchet aka Richard E Grant. The film has a great cast, and the scene with the rag and bone man, the undertaker, and the two ladies is extremely well orchestrated.

Loved it,
I don't know if blue-ray quality will be possible in the future. But for now, this DVD quality is quite better than the VHS one. Besides, I consider this the best adaptation of them all. Yes, above the 1984 George C. Scott adaptation.
