Greek Giant Beans, Gigantes (3alpha) 500g

I soaked the beans overnight, discarded the water, and then cooked them with tomato sauce and other ingredients, from a recipe I found on the web. We really loved them. They didn't have that disagreeable odor some beans have when soaked overnight. Do be aware that you have either soak them and then cook for an hour or so, or you have to cook them until soft. They absorb delicious herbal flavors plus whatever broth or juice you use. Somebody said they are just lima beans, but they are larger than lima beans, and also just tastier--I can't explain why. They are more expensive than ordinary beans, but worth the extra for something a little more special.Another thing about them is that my husband and I didn't get gas as much as other beans. However, we seem to be lucky folk who have the enzyme to digest beans. And of course you can use Bean-O tablets. There are other recipes, such as cook them in olive oil and offering them as an appetizer, as with olives. Glad I discovered these. I ordered them again.

I wanted to recreate the marinated gigante beans from the olive bar in Whole Foods and other grocery stores. These are exactly the right beans - same size and texture. While I didn't exactly recreate the taste of the marinade, the beans were terrific in the marinade I DID create, and I suspect they'd be great in almost any marinade or bean dish. The only drawback is that they're pricey, but sometimes you have to pay a bit more for the quality you want.

This arrived in the mailing bag with the product bag inside ripped and the contents spilled out. Also, this is supposed to be 500 gm of beans, but it's only 206 gm. I will be asking for a refund. Also, some of the beans are shriveled and not at all the way this product was described.

We have bought these before and they a very good quality. But…..I do have a concern with this latest purchase. The bag arrived opened. The corner had been snipped off with a scissor or razor blade. The beans look okay and the package weighs the right amount. They cannot be returned So we will take our chances and use them. “You try them first dear”

The beans were absolutely delicious. They were easy to prepare. While firm, they nonetheless melt in your mouth. And, as touted they had a creamy, buttery flavor. In addition, they were delivered on time so I could use them for a dinner I had planned a day later. Great food, great service.

I soaked these for a day and then cooked for about two hours, until the skins were soft and tender. Soaking is a must, as is cooking long enough, otherwise the skins will be very tough. But with time and patience, these were a great addition to a Greek lemon soup I made. I just bought two more bags!

I get this brand most of the time from Amazon. I’ve noticed the last two orders the quality has gone down. Hoping our next order improves or we’ll have to go to another brand. What a shame, they used to be so good. They are not cheap, so the quality is important, don’t like having to throw out 10% of the beans.Edited 7/24/24: updating because we have made 15 orders to date of these beans, once in a while we get a bag that the quality is not up to my standards. Each time I’ve contacted this seller the response is swift, positive and appreciated by them. We will continue to purchase these beans, they are absolutely by far the best beans of this type we have tried.
