3 Prime

Being a great Abe Laboriel fan, I had to get hold of this gem! It does not disappoint. Three players in their prime (gettit!)playing the music they love with a freshness and an energy that sometimes fails to surface in the programmed world of smooth jazz. While many trios are anchored by a dominant player, Oscar Peterson for example or Stephane Grappelli; this trio is really an equilateral triangle with each player having their opportunity to lead, to shine and to provoke the others to even greater heights. Add into the mix an eclectic range from Kern to Jobim as well as four originals and you have the makings of a classic! It sounds like it was recorded in a small room and the playing has that same kind of immediacy to it....not that it is a cheezy recording....it is the way a live recording should sound....just like you were there. So hunt this puppy down and add it to your collection and pray we have not heard the last of 3Prime.

I RAN ACROSS THIS JEWEL AT A USED CD STORE...( LOOKING FOR A BARGIN ). AND I GOT ONE. THESE GUYS PLAY TRIO AS GOOD AS ANY BIG NAMES I HAVE IN MY COLLECTION.( 2,000 JAZZ CD'S )AND AS A JAZZ MUSICIAN MYSELF I DO NOT ACCEPT JUST ANYTHING..AS GOOD...BUT THIS IS. IT IS A LIVE RECORDING BUT , A VERY GOOD ONE. THE ONLY REASON I GAVE IT 4 STARS NOT 5 , IS ...THIS IS THE ONLY CD YOU CAN FIND FROM THIS GROUP.
