Steve Backshall's Deadly 60

My 5 year old boy loved this TV series so getting the book was naturally a great addition. It does the job just fine.

Great value for money item, full of information and picture.Kids won’t put it down… keeps them quiet for hours.

This book is awesome. Coupled with (or without) it is very well written and accompanied with great photos. My 5 year old son has read it in bed almost every night since he got it 5 months ago. He spouts off the most amazing facts and information and has developed a keen and passionate interest in the natural world and all creatures. I can not recommend this book enough and hope there’s an follow up soon. It’s interesting for all ages, even adults. It’s not scary, but informative and gripping enough to hold interest. It’s factual and arms the reader with proper facts to avoid them feeling scared of dangerous beasties, instead to respect the diversity and skills of each animal. What a fantastic book.

I bought this for my little boys 6th birthday as he’s a big Deadly 60 fan. He absolutely loves it! He loves that he recognises the animals from the show and tells me what he remembers from the show, and is enjoying finding out other facts about each animal.

This is a solidly constructed hardback a little bigger than A5 size with 126 pages of shiny coloured pages containing oodles of deadly animals and insects. Two facing pages are dedicated to each animal, the common and Latin name is given. Whilst there is info on each animal its written in a casual style as it is on the show not like a text book. Each animal has a rating a little like trump cards, with categories size, speed, weapons and deadly rating, with up to 5 points for each item. The 60 animals, insects include hippo, black mamaba, great white shark, ghost bat, cuttle fish, king cobra, mountain lion, tiger shark, army ants, polar bear and many more. There are one to two pictures per animal, many of them truly stunning. A great book for 7 to 12 year olds esp. fans of the series. Whilst Steve Backshall appears in many of the pictures they have been chosen to show off the animal and not Steve, so mums hoping there will be a topless picture of Steve swimming with the hippo will be disappointed!

Fab book, my little boy loves it. Very child friendly if they are interested in animals. My little boy is 6 and a very good reader so can access Independently but a great book to share if a child isn't able to read it alone.

This is a great book to accompany the series which appears to be still on BBC iPlayer. A good read for a 6 year old who has seen some episodes. Some of the words and phrases might be challenging to understand but our 6 year old regularly chooses to read this over less challenging material due to the subject matter. Sometimes he reads to us, sometimes we read to him. Excellent.

This book is an absolute must for any Deadly 60 or Steve Backshall fan. It is jam packed with interesting facts about the animals from the show. My daughter goes back to the book time and time again, a great way to get them into non-fiction. A great addition to our collection, if you have a child interested in animals, i'd recommend this book.
