A piece of art
As a Norewgian living abroad we really enjoyed this cookbook. We often do outside cooking at our permanent BBQ and fireplace. The book gave us a long list of new meals to try out. Thank you.

Beautiful book to get you in touch with your Norwegian roots.
I've been following Nevada's journey for a few years now (via her blog) and love her recipes. This book is beautifully designed and has some great recipes. I can't wait to try some of the more adventurous ones.

Some ingredients you'll have and others you won't.
Nevada Berg writes well. She is a writer who blogs rather than a blogger who writes. This is a lovely book but does not get 5 stars because the publisher's lazy editing means that it contains unrevised terms for ingredients which are unfamiar to UK cooks (e.g. heavy cream; light molasses; moose; rutabaga; eye of round). While European quantities have been added, the spelling and vocabulary are still US English. There are several fascinating ingredients which are unobtainable in the UK such as cloudberries, moose, spruce tips, chanterelles, light molasses. I have no idea what she means by fine and coarse wholemeal flours. However, even with these proscriptions, Nevada's recipes are inspiring and her descriptions of Norwegian cookware of great interest. No suppliers are suggested for ingredients or cookware, alas. The baking section alone has addictive charm, whether it be the sour cream wafers with caramelised sugar or the go-to carrot sheet cake. Several of the cake and biscuit recipes are for massive amounts and would need to be scaled down. The venison, mussel and salmon recipes look delightful and I can't wait to try the smoked trout mousse. In the unlikely event of getting hold of any grouse, I ache to try the walnut and rye-encrusted grouse with buttery blackcurrant sauce. There are some interesting soups - the wild garlic one will come in handy next spring. She uses juniper berries in sweet and savoury ways - interesting. The use of fresh lovage is another culinary path of interest. Strangely, the publisher does not have a look-inside facility which would allow people to find out more about the contents of this rather expensive book. The publishers have somewhat let down Nevada.

More than a cookbook - it's a treasured keepsake
The North Wild Kitchen: Home Cooking from the Heart of Norway is a stunning cookbook - it's more than a cookbook - you can read it like a well-informed book about Norway and its history of its people and baking with beautiful photos. This isn't a book to hide in your cupboard but one to put on your living room coffee table as a focal point of conversation. The recipes are easy to follow and fun to try. Most of the ingredients are easily found, thanks to the internet making the world an accessible grocery store or making unique requests easy to replace with your own local, cost-effective ingredients. The North Wild Kitchen: Home Cooking from the Heart of Norway would make an incredible gift for your Norwegian friend or family member or a treasured keepsake for the family when you buy it for yourself.

Beautiful cook book!
We love to break out an old school Norwegian recipe to bring us back to the land of our parents! What is great about this book, is that you will discover recipes of dishes you remembered your grandmother making, but had no idea what it was really. You get to rediscover all those! We are very, very happy we bought this cookbook!

Great,recipes and beautiful photographs
Beautiful photographs throughout and inspired, delicious recipes. This book has just enough of the interesting backstories and context, without losing sight of the food itself.
