The Witchcraft of Salem Village

Enjoyed the book. I'd heard of it and never expected to find a copy. Shirley Jackson was awesome with fiction, nonfiction, and children's stories.

This is one of Shirley Jackson's lesser known books. Written for her son, I found it an easy read and full of information that surprised me. And I mean, written by Shirley Jackson the author of The Haunting and The Lottery.

Nonfiction that reads like fiction from the one and only Shirley Jackson. Remember reading this in elementary school, before I knew who Jackson was-- delighted to find it again. Very readable as an adult, great for kids of all ages who want to get a handle on this grim chapter in American life

Story – 5/5Narration- 4.5/5“The Witchcraft of Salem Village” by Shirley Jackson is a historical retelling of the Salem witch trials of 1692. History is changeable data, so I don’t know if this is 100% fact, but it rings true, and it is a compelling story.As I was listening to the story, I realized that this is a crime tale, a history lesson, and a horror story.The narration was straight forward and pleasant.Recommendation – not scary because it’s History, but still well worth reading or listening to.

There was nothing particularly wrong with ‘The Witchcraft of Salem Village.’ Jackson’s writing is up to par and the subject matter itself was interesting. For some reason, I didn’t really enjoy reading it and found it to be rather dull. On the plus side, it does offer a decent overview of the witchcraft panic, shedding light on the root of where the acute hysteria originated from.Even though I found it to be boring, I do think it’s worth reading if you’re wanting to educate yourself more about the Salem trials but don’t want to commit to an in-depth account just yet.

Although it's written for young people it's a great basic explanation of the Salem Witch trials. Highly recommend.

just browsen thru some books my son ordered and this one looks very good to me ! I will have to let him know to pass on to me .He reads a lot as I do to. he usally does well in picking out books so I will give this one a try , I am sure all is perfect with him and the quick service ,thank You

I purchased this book without realizing it was written for juvenile readers. Nonetheless I enjoyed Jackson's prose and it was an informative read.

In reading this book it shows how the US has the possibly repeating history with the assault on the LGBTO and woman's rights using fear as their weapon.

Spiega in maniera precisa e breve tutto ciò che è accaduto in quel periodo. Consiglio vivamente di leggerlo , in particolare agli studenti delle scuole medie e superiori.

I was interested to read this "non-fiction fiction" by Shirley Jackson as I absolutely love everything else she's done. This was no exception. Brilliant history lesson in her classic unsettling style fiction. Seriously, was this woman a witch?? Everything she wrote is magic!! :D

このペーパーバックはおそらくは未訳です。1692年マサチューセッツにあるセイラム村というところで起こったエピソードをもとにアメリカにおける魔女狩りの歴史を語るという内容になっています。魔女裁判の様子を描写する迫力（魔力の犠牲者と見られていた少女たちの集団ヒステリーの様子、それを信じ込む治安判事と村人）には鬼気迫るものがあり、さすがはホラーの女王ジャクスンと思わず唸ってしまいました。Grade 6 and up(小学校6年以上）ということで、単語も構文も比較的平易で、英語好きの日本の高校生なら辞書を片手にすれば十分に読みこなせるでしょう。当時のアメリカ人の暮らしぶり・様子を知るにも役に立ち、お勧めです。

The witch hunt in Salem village really occured in the 17th century. This book covers all the details (religion, economics, early settlement in Massachusetts, politics, life and education) in an easy-to-understand way. Great to polish up your education / knowledge and additionally have fun and a good time!So, give it a try and have fun!
