WALNEW USB 3.0 Micro SD Card Reader with Dual Slots, Memory Card Reader

I have other card readers, hubs with card readers, etc. But this is my favorite, because of the short cord. The card readers where the card sticks out the side and plug into the hubs directly are hard to use, because the card sticking out means taking out the adjacent plug to make room. It is good to have the card at a slight distance from the hub. Plus it is easier to pull the cards in and out of this card reader, compared to some of the hubs where it is a small struggle to get the card in right. That short cord makes all the difference.

We used it to transfer photos from a phone's microSD card to our laptop

I was curious, so I ran UserBenchmark against it. It said that it was USB 3.2, and that it was reading my micro SD at around 80 MB/s. I had around 30 gig of stuff on my stick, so I copied it to my C: drive, which took maybe 6 minutes, which is pretty good for my computer. My 32G micro SD is a few years old, so I wasn't expecting it to reach maximum speed, but it still did pretty good. So, I'd call it a success. The case seems to be aluminum, and it has a solid feel to it. It comes in an actual box, not just shoved in a bag or whatever. The instructions are legible, but largely unnecessary. I just plugged it in, waited a few seconds, and then inserted a micro SD into it. It actually shows up as two drives. I didn't try inserting a standard SD at the same time, so I don't know if this is possible. I like that it has a 6 inch wire for the USB A, so I can use it even if my USB ports are getting crowded. There is a small but bright white LED for the drive indicator. At $12.99, there are other card readers in this price range, but this one seems well made, works fine, and I like the built-in cable. It is small enough to tuck into a pocket or to use with a laptop computer.

This is a SD and micro SD card reader/writer that connects to any PC with a USB-A port. It has 2 card slots for memory cards – one for a full sized SD card, and another for a micro SD card. You can plug 2 cards in at the same time and both will be active. The micro SD slot is spring loaded, so to remove the card you just have to press in on it and it will pop out. The attached cord is short and has strain reliefs on both ends. I tested the reader by using a 64Gb UHS-II micro SD card and running Crystal Disk Mark, and it hit a 96 MB/s read and 38 MB/s write, which is what this card tops out as. I also tried plugging 2 cards in, and my Windows 11 laptop showed each card as a different drive, and I was able to copy files from one fcard to the other. Overall, I like this little reader. It is small, fast, and inexpensive, and I recommend it for anyone looking to transfer files quickly from SD cards to a PC.

I've only used this on a Windows PC and it works as expected. After plugging it in to a USB-A port, this reader shows as 2 different drives in File Explorer, one for the SD card slot and one for the microSD card slot. No problem playing video files stored on memory cards off the card reader. There is a white LED next to the card slots that is solid when the card reader is plugged in and has power. It blinks when some file on a memory card is being accessed (e.g. playing a video file) or when writing to a memory card. The card reader has an aluminum shell on the main body that helps dissipate heat. There is also some aluminum on the USB plug connector that may serve the same purpose or to provide some stability when inserting or removing the USB plug. One thing that was initially confusing is that a microSD card has to be inserted upside down while a regular SD card is inserted upright (this is with the WALNEW logo on the card reader facing up). There could have been a simple diagram on the card reader body to show the proper orientation of a memory card when inserting it.

To go along with the 2GB SD card I picked up, I grabbed this to add card reader functionality to a system that lacks it. Plug-and-play is great, it just works.

I used this card reader to transfer photos from my camera to my phone and to remove photos from my phone to my laptop. I put the SD card from my camera into it and then transfer them to my phone . I also use it at work on my work computer to download or upload documents to a SD card. It has worked perfectly every time I am satisfied with this card reader.

This device read most of the name brand SD cards and but not those that have very small data storage capacity did not work as well.
