MegaGear "Ever Ready" Protective Dark Brown Leather Camera Case, Bag for Canon PowerShot G16

My first camera in the late 1960's had a case very much like this and I really loved the durability of that case. This case lives up to my memories. It is very well made and which leather with heavy fasteners. I love the quality and the retro look and feel. I did have two easily remedied issues. First, open the front by unsnapping the two snaps on the sides of the camera, not the single snap on the bottom as in the example marketing photo (that is sort of a no brainer, I am not very smart). Second, even when opened correctly, the leather that the case is made of is very stiff and the front of the case has a maddening way of moving back up into the picture field over time once opened. This gets better over time, but may want to pivot the from to one side or remove it when taking pictures to prevent the problem.

Pro:1. Cheap2. Stylish (if you can't tell leather from plastic).3. Provides reasonable protection from impacts in normal handling4. The classic split case design allows for rapid access if you take the time (1-2 min) to figure it out.5. It can be mounted on a tripod without removal from the case.6. A useful case for an urban photographer.Con:1. The design of the case does not protect against dust, rain, or splashes.2. Impact absorbance is low. Will not prptect against falls or dropping if you plann to take it skiing or scrambling, for example.3. The camera / tripod retaining screw fell out after 2 weeks of use. It appears that a lock washer of some sort must have fallen off.Summary: I like the appearance, but for urban use, I would happily pay more for a better made case. For outdoors use on the trail, etc. it is inadequate. The retaining screw should never fall out.

First, the case itself is beautiful, and extremely well made. It is possibly to rotate the upper part back enough to use the camera with it on, but there's a trick to it:Take the snap off, and flip the upper back enough to turn the camera on, then rotate it around until it's stopped by the lens. If you rotate it too far before you turn the camera on, the camera will detect the case blocking the lens and it will give you an error message.I had a great time shooting with it all day, without having to remove the upper part at any time.I do have two small issues, though:One, the mounting screw on my case is very slightly offset, so I have to nudge the case to the right to get it to thread into the camera. I'm not really worried about this, though, because being a leather case, it will eventually conform properly to the camera.Two, the nylon ends on the leather strap are pretty flimsy. I'm keeping it as a back-up strap, but I'm sticking with the one that came with the camera, because it feels more secure.

The case is gorgeous and seems to be well-made. The issue I have with this case is that the natural way to use the case in "ever ready" mode is to unsnap the two side snaps and let the front of the case flop down and hang by the single bottom snap. But that single snap is not that secure and the front's fallen off a couple of times. This bottom attachment point could use a redesign to make it a swiveling fastener that needs to be deliberately undone.So, to cope and use the case with my camera for actual picture taking, I completely take off and stash the front of the case.The case is quite attractive, though. Someone at a meeting that saw my camera in this case immediately started talking about how old fashioned it looked, like something her father had owned years ago. It does replicate that vintage old school Leica / Kodak Reflex / Exacta / Practica / Canon style hard ever ready case look and feel.

This is an amazing case for my new Canon G16 camera. What I love about it is that the camera "locks" into the case, and the front of the case folds back allowing the use of the camera while the camera is IN the case, thereby providing extremely good protection of the camera. I can still wear the neck strap which is attached to the camera, but now there is no need to remove my camera from the case each time I stop to take photos. I am extremely happy with this product and highly recommend it.

Amazing quality product to attach to my Canon Power Shot G16. The ease of which I can unsnap the top cover to take a photo is awesome. The base attaches to tri pod without removal. It is a stylish way to greatly add protection to my camera.In addition, I ordered a dark brown leather, which was a tight fit, and Mega Gear immediately, without question or hassle, mailed me a replacement in the lighter brown which fit perfectly. Perhaps that cut of dark brown was tight... either way... this company is a pleasure to deal with.

The case was a relacement for my old case and while the case itself is a solid snug fit, the strap is problematic. It is wider than the whole it is designed to enter and it is a loose weave so when you trim it, getting the strap go through just breaks it up. Fabric is so soft and inferior to the previous model so I made do using the old damaged strap and the new case. I would have given it higher for the case but the strap knocks off a lot of points

High-quality, high-functioning, high-fashion! I am a photographer, not exactly professional, but more than a snap-shooter. I purchased a Canon G16 so I would have a small, purse-sized camera with me all the time. Since the camera goes in and out of a purse, I wanted a case to protect it from scratches, lint and the like. MegaGear's "Ever Ready" leather case is made specifically for my camera. It fits perfectly and does an excellent job of protecting my camera as I drag it in and out of my bag, without adding a lot of bulk. The case is easy to open and doesn't have to be removed in order to shoot a picture. It is very well made and I love the retro "Brownie" camera look...serious cool factor!! The neck strap is comfortable and adjustable, but I usually have it wrapped around my wrist anyway. That is my only wish for improvement on this case - a leather wrist strap, because I never shoot with my camera around my neck.

Update 10 months later. given it another star. still robust, the poppers are all still solid, keeping its shape and colour. No visible signs of wear on the case despite being on the floor of the car, down the back of the sofa, sharing the bottom of my wife's handbag with goodness knows what. I'de forgotten it wasn't leather until I just re-read this review. It looks and feels like a very good quality leather case.Fits the G16 perfectly. the screw on the base is in a short slot so you can slide it rather than put pressure on the camera. Nice colour, looks good and well made. the strap is not the same quality as the case and looks a bit cheap and flimsy so I'm using the canon strap that comes with the camera.I'm happy with plastic rather than leather, but it's a bit expensive for a plastic case.let's see how it gets on with use.so, tacky strap and high price loses it a star, but in all honesty I couldn't find another case to compete with it at that price point. once the G16 has been around for a while maybe there will be more options.

This case provides great protection for the camera and looks good too. It is very sturdy and protective against drops and bashes. I would not describe it as water resistant as there are many ways water could get in.One downside is that when your camera is in this case it is harder to take out quickly to capture those all important shots! At the base of the case is a screw for added stability for the camera which of course makes it even harder to get the camera out in a rush. This is a trade off for better protection.

I like the idea of a neat case for the camera, which allows access to the dials etc..., which this does. It isn't leather, but is still robust. The base screw allows the case to be fixed into the thread for a tripod fix, but still allowing the same tripod fix to be attached beneath the case.My one gripe is that on the Canon G16, the SD card fits into the bottom of the camera, so the camera has to be removed from the case to get at the SD card in order to transfer pictures - unless you use a lead.

It takes a while to get used to this cover but after a while you get quite good at uncliping and snapping.I am not giving it a good reveiw as like others have mentioned the securing screw is 2-4mm out of place. I am concered that this is going to damage the thread.People will ask why take it off, well if you want to take the battery or memory card out you have to unscrew that cover and remove it.

I really liked the case, and it would have got five points, except the mounting screw was about 4 mm out of alignment from the camera. Hence the case was useless.I returned it, and received a credit, then tried to buy another in the hope it would have screw mounting correctly aligned, to find that this model had been removed from distribution. Maybe there was a message there!I bought an almost identical case from another supplier, about half the price with corresponding quality, but this one works.
