Just what i needed
Great book! I looked and looked for a fairly simple, straightforward book covering pre-diabetes. Having been on a low carb diet for several years and informed/interested in nutrition, I didn't need a "beginners" book...needed something covering my diet from a different angle. This book is it! The information is very, very easy to digest (pun intended), clear, makes sense doesn't commit to specific hardline notions. The charts are short, simple and easy. No recipes which is good. (Some of these books have 1200 recipes!) Best thing is it's "guilt free", doesn't mention actual weights or a huge amount of stats, no shaming, encourages going slow and doing self-care, talks to you not at you...love this book. I am so glad we found each other!

Take care of yourself
Lots of good info. Turns out I was not prediabetic but close. I followed the recommendations in this and the Fuhrman book "The End of Diabetes". Not only has my glucose level gone down, my weight and blood pressure have gone down too. My taste has changed, as well. Foods I loved give me no desire and for a splurge last week, I went to big name fast food joint. Yuck. I felt sick afterwards.

Great read very helpful
So you get told at the doctor that you are prediabetic so what do you do....you find out more information on what your life is about to look like. Meaning what foods can I not eat or drink....No one wants to stay away from the things they love but at least there are books like this to help us make the change. Great read.

not my favorite
I purchased this book and 2 others to begin my research. Honestly, the info in this book was a bit dated. I have a pretty good understanding of diabetes as a whole and was hoping for some of the newer, updated info on pre-diabetes. I prefered The Everything guide to managing and reversing pre-diabetes myself (PERSONAL CHOICE)... it included some innovative recipes and new food ideas I hadn't already heard a million times. Other than that, I really think that any book you purchase to learn something you didn't already know is never a loss. My opinions are just mine, hope you'll decide for yourself.

Comprehensive and Clear Cut Information
Being recently diagnosed with pre-diabetes, I was confused as to what that actually meant for my body and what I was to do. I read Hillary Wright's book as I was consulting my doctor and my own nutritionist and I found everything Hillary mentioned to be accurate and in agreement with my medical advice.I enjoyed Hillary's writing style, as I felt she was writing directly to me and I found it easy to follow along with her examples and facts. I often found myself using Hillary's analogies as I explained my recent diagnosis to friends and family, and they too found the explanations easy to understand.I highly recommend this book to anyone who has been recently diagnosed with pre-diabetes or has a family member living with pre-diabetes. There are many tips of menu and food choice selections, so it is key that anyone who is serving food to a pre-diabetic truly understands what is involved with the diet.My entire family is now eating healthier thanks to Hillary's tips. Diabetes or not, it is a diet I believe all people should follow to some degree for healthier choices. Hillary's information about the abundant increase of pre-diabetes and diabetes in American society is mind boggling.

Couldn't put it down......
This book is amazingly thorough! I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. It is a no-nonsense guide to healthy eating, let alone anyone with prediabetes. The sample menu plans at the back of the book are most helpful because they give you variety and alternatives to each suggested meal. Although the author is a specialist in women's health issues, this book is most pertinent for men as well. Besides what she knows about managing insulin resistance, Ms. Wright states that her goal is to "provide the same sense and empowerment and doable, realistic diet and lifestyle strategies to the much larger population who have prediabetes." She definitely accomplishes her goal! In addition, her footnotes are some of the most detailed I've ever seen for such a book. She has done her homework and this book proves it. Every doctor who treats patients with these concerns needs to first "prescribe" this book.

This program works!
My blood sugar readings have varied around 100+ the past few years and most recently hit 112 a couple months ago. I was concerned diabetes might be inevitable and turned to this book for help. After implementing the diet and exercise guidelines, I'm glad to say I've dropped my blood sugar to 100, have lost 20 pounds, and my blood pressure has dropped to the point where I'll probably want to discontinue some of my meds (have to check with my doctor). The program isn't magic but if you do the work, I think and hope it will work for you.
