Classical Medical Astrology: Healing with the Elements

A very interesting approach to the subject: simple, practical, comprehensive.

I have been studying astrology for a few years now including medical/Honary - this book gives a fresh approach to applying the medical knowledge to the chart. Even though the books states you cannot use natal charts to uncover medical issues that is the only thing I would disagree on with the author.

This book is Brilliant! I can only surmise that the review by "astrologer" is written by someone who keeps astrology strictly on the theoretical level, when put into practise the methods outlined in this book WORK. I have used the methods in this book with great success and it continues (along with Culpeper's Herbal) to be the cornerstone of my medical work. No where in this book does the author state medical Natal Astrology does not work, he merely points out (correctly) that Horary medical charts are far better for diagnosing and treating specific dis-eases. There is a brilliant chapter on using the natal chart for preventive treatments. I have 14 books on this subject and this is my favourite and also the best. Highly recommended.

Unfortunately I received this book just now and it is not about Classical Astrology at all. As soon as you open the cover it says it is a book called 'Houses Temples of the Sky by Deborah Houlding'. Asked for a refund.

There are so few books on medical astrology that I was pleased to find this. Sadly I found it almost unreadable and I wonder why this book was not 1) edited more comprehensively and 2) translated more sympathetically...I learnt very little and gave up about half way through A waste of money!

An excellent introduction to medical astrology according to the classical model of Hyppocrate and Avicenne (Ibn Sina). Covers the 4 elements and the humours, finding the cause of any disease through horary astrology, a spiritual approach to disease and its cure according to Hildegaarde de Bingen. Compatible with traditional medicines, and especially with Unani t-Tibb, Ibn Sina's medicine which is our ancient european humoural medicine as preserved within the islamic tradition. I thank the author highly for introducing me to this medicine. Further information on it can be found in books by Hakim G M Chisti. From an astrological standpoint, the author is a student of John Frawley and relies mostly on Culpeper and Saunders.

I learned a great deal from this book on classical medical astrology. The title says it - Hofman writes from the old school. He talks about diagnosing with horary charts according to particular rules and placements; the humors and elements associated with the planets and signs and how these can be interpreted medically. He discusses the use of herbal treatments, and interestingly he goes into some detail regarding the spiritual healing stone/spine/virtue correspondences which were developed by St. Hildegard von Bingen. It is very interesting and I read it several times for use in diagnosing self and friends.

I learned a lot from this book! I’m fascinated by the idea of medical astrology so I wanted to dive in more. I will say, for a beginner I was a little confused. It was dense for me. But I think if I read it again, and perhaps consult some other books first, I’ll understand it more. I liked the section on crystals! That was super interesting to me. P

This is the clearest book on traditional medical astrology I have found so far. Good explanation of using humnoral considerations and sign/planet correspondences to zero in on causes and remedies. A major contribution to the field. As soon as I get my website reorganized and functioning as it should again, this is one of the books I'll put up with an endorsement and a link to buy it on Amazon.
