Water Prefilter Sediment Filter for Well Water Hose Sediment Filter Reusable Spin Down Sediment Water Filter - 50 Micron, 1" MNPT + 3/4" FNPT

The quality of this product is excellent. Very well made, with double 0- ring seals, the bottom drain outlet swivels in a sealed fitting so the drain valve can be positioned forward regardless of how the filter has spun on, and the brass casting is very clean. But....while it is true that the brass top allows provides a 1" MNPT and 3/4" FNPT connection, the interior passage through the device is only 1/2". This creates a significant drop in flow rate through the device, causing back pressure on a well pump, decreasing available GPM. An overall pressure raise and flow drop making it wholly unsuitable for a water system with 1" pipe form a well to a pressure tank. The are PVC devices available that have a 1" fitting, with 1" pass through.

This comes with a 50 micron steel mesh filter which clogged quickly from rust particles from my well water. I installed this on the line feeding my sprinkler system and had hoped it would prevent my sprinkler heads from getting clogged. It worked too well. I cannot find a replacement filter at a 1000 or 500 micron size, except in a different brand called "iSpring" which has different filter size options at purchase. I tried an iSpring replacement filter but it did not fit. I will likely be buying the iSpring filter housing (which looks almost identical) and getting the 1000 micron filter for larger sediment particles. Otherwise this filter is great, built well and I like the clear housing to see when the filter needs to be washed/replaced. It was much smaller in size than I expected, but does the job. Installing was easy with 1" female shark bite copper fittings using the outside threads.

This thing works as a filter, but doesn't filter very long before it is clogged. The valve on the bottom to flush the filter doesn't seem to do very much. I was going to hook it to an automatic valve so that it could be flushed every day, but was difficult to adapt to that function. Even manually flushing it every day it only lasted about a week before it was completely clogged. For my purposes it needs to be several times larger and the flush needs to work better. Still it does filter and and if you had less in the water to filter out, it might be a good deal.

This is well made of stainless steel material-made with two different threading-3/4” on the inside and 1” outside. Very easy to install-we are not plumbers. We bleed out the system and half a day later we noticed tiny specks of brown in the spin jar and we are on city water. Who knew -city water. I am now sure this will extend the life of our tankless water heater and other appliances. The water heater manufacturer suggested we use one- glad we did.Hope to be able to buy spare clear jars and filters- did not see them.

Helping lower my reliance on filters for sediment stage

Good clean cut threads accommodate both male and female pipe threads. Using the 1" male threads allows for greater flow (i.e. less pressure drop) than the female 3/4" threads. While it's not truly "backwashable" it does allow rinsing and draining without removal of the filter.

Use the teflon tape and the thread sealer together to prevent leaks. Unit works 100% for my needs as a prefilter for my water system.

We love this for our well. We have one before the pressure tank and one after. They are simple to drain and clean. They work. We have the 50 micron. We didn't notice any loss in flow or pressure. We use a jet pump.
