Lovely Feel- Good Story, A Family Favorite
This is our family’s favorite St. Patricks Day book, and we have quite a collection. The setting is in Ireland, about a young boy on the special day and his determination and humble pride. The author paints a glorious picture with words, and it’s a feel-good story. Our 5-yr. old and 2 yr. old both adore it, and we love reading it.

Excellent book for simple enjoyment or early-age studies in Irish tradition.
This is an excellent story and the artwork is wonderful. Young ones find a small slice or a big chunk of Irish tradition, history, and current life, depending on if a reader simply read the book aloud (something I'm asked to do constantly) or teacher used it as the starting point for a kindergarten unit study.

Nice story.
This was a replacement for a very loved book that has been a favorite of my grandkids for many, many years. A cute story of not giving up.

It grows on you...
I have to admit that I found this book boring the first 22 times or so that my son forced me to read it aloud (once a day since March 1st) because it is overly long, not particularly funny (or serious, for that matter) and although written in English, at times it sounds like it was translated from Gaelic..nevertheless, I am used to it now and sort of appreciate it more. If you are from Ireland, you are more likely to relate to its story about a boy excluded from the family ritual of marching in the village parade because of his young age. No leprechauns here or pots of gold...

Very cute story!
We checked this book out at the library a couple of years ago and fell in love with it. We purchased it and read it all year long. The story is a cute one of a little boy stretching his legs and gaining some independence.

Great St. Patrick's Day read
I love this story by Eve Bunting. It is the perfect read for St. Patrick's day. The illustrations are mosty monogramatic but still cature the children's attention. Highly recommend!
